kwickimom
Hi all- I am on day 14. I have had diarrhea and stomach cramps from day 5 on and its getting worse and worse. I cut out eggs on day 11 after a really bad day. Its gotten worse. I was up all night running to the bathroom. I can barely leave the house because of this issue and I am not sure what else I can do. I had an apple and nuts with my dinner yesterday so I can try and also cut out those foods I guess? I have never been hungry on this program and have to force myself to eat every single meal. I am pretty sure I am not getting in enough calories. I am now weak from diarrhea and I have never felt worse in my life. Any help?!?!?!?
GFChris
First off, take some anti diarrheal medication and drink lots of water. Secondly you might want to see your doctor, as that's an awful long time to have diarrhea. I wonder if you caught a stomach bug? And yes, step away from the nuts and any raw fruits/veggies. Can you give us an idea of what a few days of your meals have looked like? Include portion sizes and daily water consumption.
kwickimom
B- 1/2 sweet potato sautéed in coconut oil with colored peppers and onions, 1/4 cup breakfast sausage (homemade with ground chicken and seasonings) and sautéed spinach. 1/2 avacado. I maybe eat half of this. L- salad with chicken and dump ranch (I eat about 2 cups total) D- spaghetti squash with meatballs and some nuts. I eat the same breakfast and lunch and the same dinner for a few days. I drink 1 coffee after breakfast and at least 100 oz of water a day. kwickimom
I don't think it's a stomach bug, but I guess it could be. I don't feel nauseous or "sick" at all just weak and tired but that's because of the diarrhea. If it is a bug Ive had it for like 9/10 days. I'll cut out the salad and I guess have steamed veggies and I'll cut out the nuts and figure out another fat for dinner. I'm sick of avocado. JulieP757
Are you using a lot of coconut oil? That can cause diarrhea for some folks.
GFChris
Ok, you're significantly underfeeding yourself. Have you seen the meal template? For best results, build each meal to meet the recommended template of 1-2 palm-sized portions of protein (a palm is the length, width and thickness of the palm of your hand), 1-3 cups of veggies and a compliant fat. Instead of 1/4 c sausage, eat two sausages. Instead of 1/2 a sweet potato, eat the whole sweet potato. You need a huge mixing bowl of spinach to satiate yourself. If you're going to steam your veggies, get some good fats in there. (You may want to avoid cruciferous veggies also, as those can cause digestive issues for some.)If you're tired of avocado, you have lots of other fats to choose from: olives, coconut milk/oil/butter/flakes, clarified butter, ghee, tallow, compliant bacon fat, duck fat, olive oil, homemade mayo are among the choices.Make some bone broth and get that in you to help your stomach/digestion. kwickimom
My problem is- I am forcing myself to eat. That's all I can choke down. I almost gag in the mornings trying to eat veggies. I don't like coconut or olives. I can add olive oil to veggies- I sautée them in that or coconut oil. I can add the ranch dressing to veggies also. Is it normal to have to force yourself to eat? Edit to add: I have the book and have looked at the meal template but there's no way I can make myself eat all that. And I'm the girl that could eat 4000 cals a day no problem previously. I was a bottomless pit.
kwickimom
Are you using a lot of coconut oil? That can cause diarrhea for some folks. I do use coconut oil for sautéed foods most of the time. But it's like a tbsp and I have never had an issue with it in the past. Could it be a new issue on whole 30? GFChris
Some people have challenges eating in the morning, if they've not regularly had breakfast in the past. What were your eating habits like pre-Whole30? Soups can be a helpful way to ease into veggies at breakfast. You can also work your way around the plate, eating as much as you can, and if you have leftovers, wrap them until you're hungry again. Keep increasing what you consume until you can get a full template meal in.Having only a tbsp of coconut oil daily shouldn't be posing a diarrhea issue. kwickimom
I used to eat big meals- all the time lol. I would eat a huge b-l-d and snacks in between. I was eating garbage. I am just not hungry and have stomach cramps and diarrhea all the time since like day 5. I stopped eating eggs to see if that would help- I can usually get those down in the morning so maybe I will try this- 2 eggs, sausage and some veggie soup for breakfast and half an avocado for fat Chicken and steamed veggies covered in ranch A meat and veg and sweet potato for dinner with some oil for fat

If your M3 meat is sufficiently fatty, you might not need to add more fat.
