Reading the book blew my mind! Food question?

I was recommended the book "It starts with food" by a friend of mine. After reading it, things made so much sense, and became so clear to why I have some of the health issues I do. The majority was my fault, obviously. Poor eating habits, and alcohol. However, I was really naïve to what processed foods do to your body. What an eye opener! So, starting this past Sunday (2-14-16) my wife and I decided to commit to the Whole30 lifestyle change. She was a Diet Coke fiend, and I loved my beer. We both are quitting these obviously, and so far (fingers crossed) I have had limited cravings. She has had some bad headaches however, which I read is common. The only thing I've had a problem with is being hungry between meals. I'm an active guy, and play hockey 3 times a week. My question is, is it ok to have small snacks between meals? I've done some sliced cucumbers, or brazil nuts. Is this ok? Thanks!

Ideally you should be building meals that satiate you for 4-5hrs. It might take a few days to figure out the correct portion sizes for this, but just keep upping the size of your meals until you get there.

In the meantime, if you are genuinely hungry, a mini meal made up of at least 2 of the 3 macro-nutrients is best - so, protein & fat, protein & carbs, or carbs & fat.

If you'd like to post a few days worth of your food/liquid intake (indicating portion sizes), along with sleep/stress/activity levels we can check that you're on the right track.
