Supplements for Adrenal Fatigue and Dehydration

Recommended Posts

I'm on Day 3 and am Keeping Calm. Real problem is dehydration. Have been battling severe Adrenal Fatigue for over three years. Working with a Naturpath and Chiropractor, I will get better, then slip into bad habits and my adrenals will tank. The reason I started Whole30 is because I want to control it long term. I am taking several supplements for my adrenals, but still struggle with dehydration. When it gets bad I take 2-3 electrolyte packets a day- except they all have a bit of sugar in them. I am reactive hypoglycemic, so getting off sugar is a huge goal during these 30 days, and I'm afraid taking the electrolytes will sabotage a true detox. Can't decide what is more important- avoiding the sugar or controlling the dehydration. I know it is all connected and EVERYTHING will get better if I pull off the Whole30, but the dehydration = psoas muscle craps out = sacrum goes out= pain = yell at four small boys = cortisol surges = more adrenal damage. Any advice? Thanks!

So I have to ask - what is the root cause of the adrenal fatigue and dehydration? Is it from being too active?

I definitely have experience with this as I was until very recently working full time in fitness and teaching entirely too many classes and become totally overtired and I'm sure burned out my adrenals. I apologize if I'm making assumptions but if it is the case that you are overdoing it the only thing that will help is REST.

Re electrolytes there are definitely ones without sweetener in them. Also what does your fluid intake look like? What is your approximate age? What is your job activity/stress level? Are you able to get enough sleep? Answers to these questions will offer much more insight into your situation.

Not too "active" in the way you are. I'm 41, do not exercise (yet) and stay at home with my four boys. The adrenal fatigue started seven years ago when my second child had an undiagnosed milk allergy from 6 mos-18 mos. We both slept upright in a chair for a year, and it sent me into a tailspin. I had two more kids during this time. I went to tons of specialists begging for help for three years, and finally an AK chiropractor diagnosed the Adrenal Fatigue.

My fluid intake is good, but I get to a point where it goes straight through me - I'm not actually absorbing anything. I drink a glass of Himalayan salt water in the morning, a tiny bit of coffee (I know caffeine is terrible, but did I mention the four boys?) and only water, lots of it, the rest of the day.

Our diets have been *sort of* clean (but not paleo) for a long time - youngest is celiac, two others plus hubs are gluten/casein sensitive and we all have leaky gut. 49 separate food sensitivities between us. We have been eating a lot of chips and a fair amount of sugar (we live in Austin - chips and salsa are a food group.)

I try to sleep well, but I'm a nine hour girl and a natural night owl, so my body doesn't think I've gotten a good night's sleep since I was twelve. Am working on going to sleep by 10:30 every night. Whatever.

Thanks for the help!

I have adrenal fatigue, food sensitivities, etc., too, and water goes right through me as well. I don't practice my own advice regularly, but I hear bone broth is an excellent source of electrolytes. http://kcbundy.wordp...d-electrolytes/ It's been a while since I made one. Perhaps I will tomorrow...

I hope the supplements continue to work for me. I've tried all of them and eventually, they don't have an impact at all. Sigh.
