jlj80
finished my W30 last Thursday. on friday, fell to sugar dragon. back on the wagon saturday. fell off again yesterday. in my plan to continue W30 99% of the time (allowing myself regular butter and some regular salad dressing) some loophole in my head took away the self control and will power that i had maintained throughout the 30 day. my issues with sugar are so deep seeded 30 days is barely scratching the surface. i am unable to have one bite of dessert or sweets. once i have one i want it all and stuff myself, over eat (this is what happened last night). i dont want ot live on whole 30 forever, but right now without the structure i am already reverting back to my deep seeded habits. i had eaten well all day yesterday, but was exhausted and walked in the house at 430 pm saw my sons cupcake in the fridge and just ate it. and then had a painting party last night with tons of treats and ate all those too. way past the point of fullness. and guilt. anyone else experience this? how long on W30 until i can get better control over my relationship with sweets (savory indulgent food is less of an issue-its all about desserts). i am back on 100% today. we have a vacation in less than 3 weeks which is going to be challenging, but i will make my way through. QuilterInVA
If you have a long standing problem you are trying to fix with the W30, e.g. taming the sugar dragon, 30 days may not be enough. You may need a W60 or even a W90 and definitely do reintro according to the schedule to be sure what is causing the cravings. There will always be food around that we can't handle so we need to learn what to do to say no. That might mean bringing your own snack when there are events like your painting party or keeping your son's cupcake out of sight in a container and cut up vegetables and hard-boiled eggs in the front of the fridge if you absolutely have to snack. Guest
Hi there jlj! I understand quite well where you are. I started my first whole30 on dec 27, did it perfectly first 30 days, then had some on an offs on specific days, but generally handled it well. Last week I have had visitors home and we went out very often and have been eating cereals, rice or icecream almost every day for the last 5. They are leaving us tonight and next week will be key for getting back on track. I have definitely refused to go on the scale in order not to depress myself. Quilter above mentions that it is important to understand what causes the cravings, and I agree. In my case, it can be the pre-period... But also stress, and habit... On my side, I am aware that 30d don t change 40y habits... But i am hopeful on the changes I saw during my 30 perfect + 60 almost perfect days, and will try to get in the (sugarless) wagon as much as I can. Good luck, jlj! JulieP757
Google Sugar Addict on this Forum and you will find lots of threads where folks have similar stories; I've posted the links for a couple below. Sugar addiction is real and you are not alone. I know I cannot eat sugar without triggering a binge. Does that stop me from eating the cupcake? Most of the time, but not all the time. Even fruit can be a trigger. So sad. Try to focus on all the good food you can eat rather than the one thing you can't. http://forum.whole30.com/topic/32780-sugar-dragon-slayers/page-14?hl=%2Bsugar+%2Baddict#entry361714 http://forum.whole30.com/topic/33428-sugar-addict/?hl=%2Bsugar+%2Baddict
HealthyForPNG
Um, yes. I did my first whole30 in 2013. I loved almost every part of it, felt great, but didn't lose any weight (I was only 2 months postpartum and nursing), and fell hard core back into sugar dragon land. I do GREAT with rules. I don't do well with being an adult and having to make my own I'm starting a 2nd Whole30 April 1 - good for you starting back so quickly!!!
