JordanLizTracy
I have been eating paleo inspired nutrition since the birth of my daughter. She's four now, but she has a 9 month-old brother now too. When I got pregnant with my son I was unemployed and depressed. I used my pregnancy as an excuse to try and eat away my feelings. In those months I nursed some really bad habits of looking to food to make me feel better. After my son was born I tried to turn back to a paleo way of eating, but it was still all about loosing my baby weight. I made it through a week here and two weeks there, but something stressful would crop up and I would binge on whatever I could get my hands on--sometimes my daughter's candy and other times her goldfish crackers. I started following Melissa and Whole30 on instagram only to see if I could get some inspiration and new recipes. After a month I decided to buy the book and I discovered the really psychological and emotional hold sugar had on me. I started my first Whole30 this week. Today is Day 4! I haven't felt a lot of side effects yet I think because I've been cooking paleo for so long it isn't difficult for me anymore. What is difficult is stress triggers! Four year-old tantrums, a baby who refuses to nap, a hard trip to the pediatrition, my parents wondering what I am going to do for work. All of these things send me straight to the Easter candy. But so far I am staying conscious of the fact that this is damaging habit that I only I can break. The stressers won't go away anytime soon. I have to change. I have a variety of plans in place now to tackle these moments in my days. So far so good. I feel great. More in control. More confident. More optimistic. JordanLizTracy
Day 8 Hard day! I feel the cravings, but what really gets me down is feeling like my stomach is in knots. Last week it was happening around 3pm. Yesterday and today it happened a little later, around 5pm right before dinner. It is a unique feeling that doesn't go away even if I use the bathroom (TMI, I know). I got through dinner because I was hungry and the feeling went away about 20 minutes after I finished eating. Major bummer. Anyone else have weird cramp-like nausea in the afternoon/evening? Am I not eating enough? Breakfast: 1 Whole30 "perfect sausage" and a giant honeycrisp apple Lunch: Spinach, Grilled Chicken, Cucumber salad with Tessamae's Whole30 compliant balsamic dressing (around 2 cups worth all said and done) Snack: two handfuls of nut mix and a hard boiled egg (it's slim pickings when I drop by my parent's house) Dinner: Salmon and Nom Nom Paleo's avocado and mango salsa (it was amaze-balls) Critiques? Suggestions? I feel much more stable now that I'm about two hours out from dinner.
JordanLizTracy
Day 9 I'm starting the day with more fat today. Avocado on my eggs, tomato, and Frank's Red Hot. Hoping it will make a difference with those stomach problems I'm having at the tail-end of the day.
JeanetteO
I think the stomach problems are sort of the way our body is working things out. The first few days I didn't have bowel movements, since I have its been a bit off. Sorry so much TMI. But I think this is par for the course when your're cleaning yourself out, if you will. JordanLizTracy
End of Day 9 Was a bit more intetional about filling up with protein and fat today, and I had no stomach issues today! B: 2 eggs, tomato, avocado, franks red hot L: uncured salami, paleo mayo, pickles, trader jo's mustad in a iceburg wrap with some strawberries S: larabar D: nomnom's cracklin' chicken, baked potato, muir glen fire roasted tomatoes, and black olives bummer moment: when I burned my first batch of clarified butter
JordanLizTracy
Day 11 B: egg salad iceberg wrap and banana L: tuna salad with left over Greek salad (bell peppers, olives, tomato, cucumber with tessamaes balsamic) S: Apple and handful kalamata olives D: TBD Tonight I face a four year old bday party and intensely frosted cake. I will say no! I'll have to eat before. They're serving BBQ pork. You know what that means...sugar sugar sugar. Bummer. Today I found out that the pistachios I was so excited to nosh on at mid afternoon had added sugar. Are you for real?
JordanLizTracy
Day 12 I hadn't really been noticing those non-scale victories, but this morning I realized that I'm feeling awake and alert quicker in the mornings. When I first open my eyes I feel like I've been hit like a truck, but that feeling goes away pretty fast now. I'm up and feeling good and energetic in about 10 minutes. I'm hopeful that small changes like this one will add up though.
JordanLizTracy
Day 13 Hard GI day today. Had to take my first nap of the whole30. Only needed 45-50 minutes. That's new. Usually need 1 1/2 hours. Win:I found Pederson's uncured no sugar hickory smoked bacon at my whole foods! I'm making nomnom's kalua pork for tomorrow's dinner to celebrate the end of week 2! Boom! JordanLizTracy
Day 15 I have been trying to keep my head down and push through without thinking too much about results because I'm confident they will come, BUT I've got a trip to Palm Springs coming up at the end of my whole30 and all my hot weather clothes haven't fit me since before I got pregnant with my son who is now 10 months. I grabbed a pair of denim shorts out of the drawer just to see if they might fit by the second half of my whole30 AND they fit now! Holy cow. So I dug a little deeper in the closet and some more surprising pieces of my pre pregnancy wardrobe zip and button. Amaze-balls!!! Kalua pork update: very very tasty especially with mashed baby potatoes, onions, and bell pepper. Leftovers for days. Thank goodness because I'm sick of making involved dinners right now. Need to be better about my breakfasts again. Getting lazy. Today was a left over brat and a banana. Not great but it's easy fuel before the kids have to get to school. JordanLizTracy
Day 20 Got out for my first run of my whole30 today. 3 miler with the baby along bolsa chica state beach. Beautiful. What was great about it was using what I've learned from the whole30 to commit to 1. getting to the beach 2. Running when I got there 3. Doing a FULL 3 miles. Now I realize that if I leave room for uncertainty I will definitely take the easy way out. I often use the baby as an excuse to weasel out of my workout. But he really actually loves to get out in the jogger and be outside and watch the birds. Imagine that
JordanLizTracy
Day 21 Yes! Three weeks! To celebrate I just had the most delicious dinner: Rib eye, purple yam, nomnom's balsalmic and bacon cabbage. I also had my first food dream. A very silly, embarrassing food dream. I was eating a giant bowl of sugar with a giant wooden spoon. Wowza.

JordanLizTracy
Day 22 Another 3 mile run this morning. Beautiful. B: apple sauce and epic uncurred bacon bites L: leftover purple yam covered in leftover sautéed balsamic bacon cabbage S: banana D: leftover rib eye, artichoke, well fed mayo and garlic This is my third batch of Melissa joulwan's mayo this whole30. Holy cow. Easy and tasty fat. No GI problems or headaches today. Hydrated and full all day long.
JordanLizTracy
Day 24 Yesterday I made Melissa joulwan's chocolate chili. I wish I knew how many batches I've made since I started Paleo nutrition four years ago. It's my hands-down-favorite recipe to have in the fridge during the week! If I've cooked it once, I've cooked it 100 times at least.
Chellesdoingr8
I made the chocolate chili during the night in the slow cooker. I really like it. One of my goals for May is to try new recipes. I am getting a head start. You should be really proud of yourself!! Keep up the good work!! Cheers!! Michelle

JordanLizTracy
Day 29 Holy crap! I can't really believe it's already day 29. I've sorta stopped thinking about the numbers. I think my habits are more solidly forming. No GI problems in a long while so I have finally evened out I think! NSV today: radiant skin. Wow. I fit into a lot more of my pre pregnancy clothes. No more yoga pants and sweatshirts everyday. That means I feel sexier, which means more sex! I WANT to go on runs. My face is thinner and less puffy. I am totally taking this for another 15 days. Challenges ahead this weekend though. Palm Springs bachelorette weekend for my best friend. I really don't want to drink! It will be hard though. I feel so great now that I don't want to lose it! I'm thinking about getting some whole30 swag to celebrate. Maybe a shirt. Does that make me lame?
JordanLizTracy
Day 30 I did it! Let's take it for another 15 days and see what happens. I feel great stepping away from the scale for all this time so I am not going to measure my stats that way when tomorrow comes.
JordanLizTracy
Day 33 Just got back from Palm Springs bachelorette weekend. I did really well. Ate and drank on plan and it was not as hard as I thought turning down drinks and being the only one who didn't get trashed over the weekend. I've found that the phrase "food elimination program" is helpful in my whole30 elevator speech. I really felt great at the end of the weekend instead of feeling bloated, hung over, dehydrated, and guilty. I watched the girls binge on snacks throughout the day because of how much they were drinking and I felt nothing but relief that I wasn't in bondage to the way of eating right now. On every other diet I would have felt intense longing and jealousy about not getting to eat chips and candy and cookies along with them. I was so stoked to feel that change in myself. JordanLizTracy
Hey friends. Been dragging my feet on this post. Arg. I quit my whole45 last Tuesday on day 35. Been eating like a crazy person for 7 days now. I got on the scale on Tuesday and found out I had lost 14lbs! Holy moly results! My excitement turned immediately into "I don't need to keep going." Bad idea. My sugar dragon is alive and well. 35 days wasn't Lon enough to kick my binging habits. So now I'm back and in full effect today. Back to day 1. The program worked sooo well for me. Round 2 should be even better, easier. Self efficacy is worth so much more than eating a whole bag of dark chocolate covered pretzels. Let's do this. Day 1 B: applesauce and coffee (need protein and fat; not enough food; making egg muffins tonight for rest of week) L: hamburger lettuce wrap, tomato, pickles, onions, handful of fries (don't need that shit next time though) D: going to make shrimp curry with veggies
JeanetteO
Hey you, how you holding up? Still chugging along on your next round? Btw CONGRATS on 14lbs!!! That's great, so happy for you
