paymondimonium
I eat a blended fruit bowl for lunch every once in a while and the place I buy them from doesn't have many protein options I can add. Is hemp granola ok?
Moderators Tom Denham Posted April 5, 2016 Moderators Share Posted April 5, 2016 No. Plant protein is never a match for animal protein. And granola is never okay regardless of the ingredients it is made with. Meals should be protein, fat, and veggies. Including a fist-size serving of fruit with that meal is optional. Having fruit with no veggies means you have not violated a rule, but you have murdered meal composition guidelines and eroded the value of your time doing a Whole30. Moderators ShannonM816 Posted April 5, 2016 Moderators Share Posted April 5, 2016 No, this is not okay. Additionally, this meal doesn't follow the recommended meal template. For best results, your meals should contain 1-2 palm-sized portions of protein, 1-2 thumb-size servings of fat, and a whole bunch of vegetables. Fruit should be limited to no more than two fist-sized servings per day, and not eaten on its own (because eating it on its own will cause spikes in blood sugar, leaving you hungry and moody later). Set aside the blended fruit bowl for 30 days. Are you vegetarian? There are some exceptions for vegetarians as far as protein sources, but even then a fruit and granola bowl is not ever going to be your best option.
