Bmill7785
I live in Astoria, and while there are lots of organic and fresh markets around I have not had any luck finding ghee or clarified butter...any locals know where I might be able to find it?? Moderators ShannonM816 Posted April 9, 2016 Moderators Share Posted April 9, 2016 I'm not in Astoria, but in general, if you have a Whole Foods they usually have it. You might also ask at the local stores to be sure you haven't just missed it -- here I usually find it in the refrigerated dairy section but it is technically shelf stable and might be out where other oils and fats are. Or they might order some for you. You can do whole30 without it if you don't find it. It doesn't really do a lot for me, so I rarely buy any. I just sub in other oils or fats when recipes call for it.
Karen_Suep
It's also not too difficult to make if you find a good butter to clarify. Worst case scenario, make your own or sub other fats.

MeadowLily
KerryGold is a swell one for clarified butter. I've been making my own for a couple years now. No ghee around.
Whole30 Certified Coach littleg Posted April 9, 2016 Whole30 Certified Coach Share Posted April 9, 2016 http://nomnompaleo.com/post/15235810877/diy-ghee pay attention to the "deep golden brown" part in the directions. If you make your own and let it get to that brown point (but don't burn it!) its almost caramel-like. So good.
Savil95
If you have any Indian grocery stores around, ghee is extremely common in Indian food preparation! That's where I get mine (Portland, OR). It also tends to be cheaper than Whole Foods or those types of stores.
BB in NOLA
Whole Foods almost always carries ghee. There are several near you. My Whole Foods has it on the shelf near the baking items. I had to ask, because I was looking in the refrigerated section.
