MarleneRenee
Oh my! I'm excited. I'm nervous. I would like to be more prepared, but I'm ready to feel better and I DON'T want to wait! I'm 50 years old with a 12 year old daughter. I need to stay healthy and active for her and I want to do it for me, too! I've had years of being health conscious and years of throwing it all to the wind. The latter has mostly been since having my daughter. I've tried saying, "oh, I'm going to cut back on sugar", or, "I'm going to cut back on carbs". But when there isn't a commitment, it's too easy to slip back to old habits, like slipping into a pair of old slippers. I started back to the gym several months ago, but I found out the truth of the saying, "you can't out-exercise a bad diet". I'm most excited about this program because it gives me the opportunity to truly evaluate the effects the different food groups have on my own body after the Whole30 is over and to learn what's healthiest for me. My husband and daughter will be eating the same meals I prepare, but they are not doing the Whole30. I'm not ready to start packing whole30 lunches. I need some experience before I do that. I may try the Whole30 with my daughter once school is out. I've signed up for the daily emails - they will be my accountability partner. Well, enough rambling. If anyone has any favorite recipes you'd like to share, I'm all ears! Thanks for reading! Marlene
MarleneRenee
First meal: I went easy my first morning. I made scrambled eggs super loaded with veggies. Sauteed some yellow pepper and onion in 1.5 T of ghee and added leftover brocolli/cualiflower/cabbage mix. I about died when I learned I could hold hold FIVE eggs with my very long fingers! No way I can eat that much. I made three eggs, but with all those veggies it really made a lot and I couldn't eat it all. I took an hour break and finished them. NealinSF
I'm also doing it for my kids. They're 2, 4 and 6... and I want to be healthy and fit when they are older. Also, doing it for myself, but the kids add an "urgency" to the mission.
Emma
I'm an older parent and more than anything, I want to be healthy and strong as my kids grow up. They're such a treat and I want to be around. I started my first Whole30 a couple years ago and it was life changing and I learned so much and did so well, but then lost focus and got caught up in the ugly cycle of food addictions so I'm back. I enjoyed reading your intro. It's a good process to be in! Welcome!!
MarleneRenee
Thanks for your replies, NeilinSF and Emma. My daughter is in her dance lesson right now and then it's home for dinner and Day 2 will be complete. Feeling good so far - no side effects or food cravings. I'm wondering when they are going to hit me? No hunger pains, either. Feeling full. In fact some meals feel like too much!
HedyF
As someone who also started on April 11 .. I'm hoping everything is going well!
MarleneRenee
Yes HedyF, it is going well! Thanks for the note! Surprisingly, I didn't have too many struggles last week. I had NO craving for sugar, which shocked the heck out of me, because in times past using other attempts at healthy eating I always had strong cravings for sugar! So, very pleased! I struggled a little bit with energy and attitude on Saturday, Day 6, but that was it. Today, I woke up with energy and a clear head. I went back to the gym today and just finished my post-workout meal. So satisfying! I have had no difficulty with wanting to cheat; my end goal is too important. Do I want to lose weight? Yeah, sure, but I really want to have better energy and be a good example for my 12-year-old daughter. I want get my hormones back in balance. I want to have a better metabolism. And I am so eager to find out what foods my body does not like during the re-introduction phase! Those are the things that are holding me strong so far. How are you doing? CarinLG
I started on the 11th as well. Day 8! I had some headaches the first few days and the need to Kill All the Things hit on Saturday, day 6. 39yo here and my kids are creeping up on 7 and 10 this summer. I feel like I'm cheating with the Larabars. But they fill a hungry spot between meals and I haven't touched the 150 candy jars or fresh baked goodies in the office at all. That's huge for me. I've always been a sugar addict but I've gained a lot of weight since starting to work at this desk job four years ago. My husband has lost 30 lbs while I gain. My kids are fit and active and I'm ... not. I have tried jogging several times and sprained my ankle again a month ago. Doing PT. I teach Jazzercise once/week, but it's not enough. I binged on dates one night... I think day 3? But that's better than Reese's Pieces, right? I feel like I'm failing this, too, even though I haven't had any sugary treats, no soda, no alcohol, no grains, no legumes, no soy...
