I'm going to be starting off with the Atkins induction plan. I have a food and carb addiction that is ruining me and my life, and I know I'm going to need the help of dairy and other non-approved ingredients to wean myself off of carbs and my unhealthy habits.

The rules and goals are simple and laid out below.

Main Goal:

1. Get through 14 days of no carbs and no artificial sweeteners. Everything else is fair game. My main goal is coming off of carbs for good.

Other Goals (Optional):

2. I don't want to calorie count or limit the number of meals I can have just yet, but since I have a munching problem where I have this need to always have something in my mouth, I'm setting my caloric limit at 2000 calories per day and I can have 3 meals per day with 3 snacks in between. I'm not looking to lose weight just yet. However, I may go above 2000 calories or have more meals or I may 'graze' all day, and that's fine as well. My main purpose for these two weeks of induction is losing my carb addiction.

3. One of my major problems is that I eat food and watch TV/read something at the same time. The two activities are inseparable for me and one of the major reasons why I overeat. I need to work on dissociating the two activities; the purpose of eating is so I can live and the purpose of watching TV or reading something is so I can entertain myself. I may not achieve this in the induction phase, but that's okay too. Like I said my main goal is to come off of carbs.

This is going to be hands down, the hardest thing I am ever going to do. Food is me and my life. I live for food. My main purpose each day is to eat yummy food. I wake up searching for food and I fall asleep planning my food for the next day. If I don't have food, I get cranky and unhappy. I literally have an addiction. A psychological and physiological addiction that has taken over and snatched away and imprisoned me and my life. I'm at a standstill, unable to work hard, unable to study, unable to achieve anything. I am also extremely unhealthy and my health problems are mounting. I'm at risk for many diseases and am now at my highest weight which is in the obese range. This is much more than just becoming healthy to live better or losing weight to look good. I, as a person, am at stake here. My life is at stake here.

This won't be easy. I'm going to be cranky and miserable and I am going to want to quit. I am going to want to put it off for 'tomorrow' and then go stuff my face in a pizza or a cake. I will go crazy and every fiber in my being will be screaming at me to go eat some junk food. But I won't. This suffering is so temporary. I will not give up everything just for 5 minutes of satiety and pleasure. I will happily trade those five minutes of pleasure and then a lifetime of sadness to follow for these few days of unhappiness. I'm putting off everything else going on for this. This is my top priority. If I get through this, everything else will come easily and fall into place. I first need to get the chains off in order to start walking.

I'm going to be starting off with the Atkins induction plan.

Please don't do Atkins or count calories. Do the whole30. That's why you are here, right?

The meal template, three times per day is the very best way to do the whole30. No other program layered on top will make it better.

Here is the meal template: http://whole30.com/downloads/whole30-meal-planning.pdf

welcome to the boards and feel free to ask lots of questions. It may not be exactly what you expected, but it is really a great way of eating that works for a lot of people. I hope it works well for you too!

Missmary,

Thanks for your input!

Jumping straight into the Whole 30 is too hard for me.I've tried many times before and ended up giving up in the first few days. Since the Atkins induction plan is a little more flexible, I'm going to start off with that, then move on to the Whole 30.

Hi, MommaGem!

We can totally do this! I feel so much better knowing that someone else is also going to be going through what I am (not that I'm happy that you're going to be cranky and miserable). :D The watching TV/reading part is especially hard for me to get over.

Something seems to be wrong with the new email address I made for this whole 30 account. I can't access it for some reason. :(  I think I'm going to have to make a new whole 30 username because I don't want it to be associated with an email address that I can't access. I'll copy paste my intro on to there and hopefully everyone will ignore this thread and it'll get buried somewhere. :P

This'll help curb my 'grazing' tendencies as well as 'shrink' my stomach down to a normal size. I'm not looking to lose weight just yet. However, I may go above 2000 calories or have more meals or I may 'graze' all day, and that's fine as well. My main purpose for these two weeks of induction is losing my carb addiction.

memo/mimo- I merged your two threads so you don't have to lose the earlier conversation with your new user name.

I can't resist using this opportunity to reiterate that I think the whole30 is where you should start. The atkins induction plan restricts carbs only, but doesn't say anything about the quality of the foods you are eating. Whole30 does not restrict carbs, instead, it asks you to choose specific carbs that are better for your body. I suspect in the past when you tried to do whole30 you were layering other ideas about healthy eating on top: restricting carbs or restricting calories (or both). It's no wonder you couldn't keep that up! What your body needs is high quality nutrition and lots of it, including carbs.

Would you consider trying the meal template, really trying it without second guessing and changing things you previously believed about healthy eating?

I 100% agree with MissMary and I actually think you're in a better position to do a Whole30 than you think you are.

If you already KNOW you quit after a few days then you know what that uncomfortable feeling feels like and you know when it's coming so you can plan for it... there are ways we can help push you through the 'I want to quit now' feeling with support and tips on your meal plans etc... so that you are successful.

A by the books Whole30 is THEEEEEE best way to get into a healthy eating habit... layering other things on top of it is not going to help...
