SharynF
On another page I have been criticised for making a drink with coconut milk, water and organic cocoa powder or cacao nibs. However on p71 of Whole 30 book it says that cacoa drinks are allowed. And I am sure I was told back in 2013 on my first Whole30 that this was allowed. Can someone confirm or otherwise please. Thanks
Moderators SugarcubeOD Posted April 24, 2016 Moderators Share Posted April 24, 2016 Did you make something that resembled chocolate milk or hot chocolate? The cacao drinks that are allowed are things like Crio Bru where you actually steep raw cacao beans to make something that resembles coffee... So, the verdict... brewing cacao to make 'coffee' is a-ok. Using cocoa or cacao in a recipe to replicate chocolate milk, hot chocolate, mocha etc... not okay. Does that help? Moderators SugarcubeOD Posted April 24, 2016 Moderators Share Posted April 24, 2016 Okay, i went to find your other post and yes, what you are doing is against the rules. Also, the other poster was right, if you are hungry between meals, you should eat a mini meal of two of the three macros (protein, fat, veg). The concoction that you made was not only against the rules but really not doing you any favors, sorry.
SharynF
I thought I was getting good fats and the benefits of the cocoa.
Moderators SugarcubeOD Posted April 25, 2016 Moderators Share Posted April 25, 2016 Yes, coconut milk is a good fat but mixed into a concoction to replicate hot chocolate/mocha/chocolate milk is not allowed on this program. As well, if you are using this drink because your'e hungry, then you are not actually doing yourself any favors... drinking milks, juice, smoothies etc... instead of chewing food messes with your hormones and your satiety signals and is not recommended. If you're hungry, eat a mini meal of at least two of the three of fat, protein and vegetables.
