Question about results

Hello Everyone!
My name is Alex and I just finished my first Whole 30 two days ago. I have decided to continue on with whole 60 because I am a little discouraged about the results. I went 30 days following the guidelines, with no cheats and only lost 1 lb. While my energy did improve, I am still dealing with terrible skin issues. Is there something I am doing wrong? I work out 4-5 a week. The only thing I can think of is possibly eating too much fruit ( I love fruit, I would eat a lot even before the program.) Does anyone have any advice for the next 30 days?

Thank you,
Alex

First off I'd remind you that Whole30 is not a weightloss program - losing weight is a bonus that some people have as a side effect of eating wholesome nutritious foods.

You say that your energy levels improved - did you notice other NSVs? Is your hair growing faster? Are your nails stronger? Are you sleeping better? Is your mood stable/happier?

With regard to your ongoing skin issues did you eat a lot of nuts or coconut products?

Perhaps if you could furnish us with a list of what you ate say in the last few days of your Whole30, giving specifics on portion sizes, veg types, water intake, activity levels, pre existing medical conditions we could maybe give you some more informed feedback...

Hello,

Yes I know it is not a weightloss program but was a bit discouraged by eating so clean that my weight wasn't any different, clothes fit the same. My main NSV was more energy. Sleep was still alright, I wake up a lot during the night, I am a very light sleeper.

My typical day eating was

7:30 am- aidell's chicken sausage, avacado, veggie stir fry, fried egg w/ bowl of fruit (sometimes with almond butter)

11:00 am - handful of cashews & pistachios

2:30/3pm- Spaghetti Squash, broccoli, chicken and La Croix

5:30- apple ( pre run snack)

8:00 pm- chicken, roasted potatoes, avacado

I drink about 32oz and up of water a day.

Ok, so it's hard to tell if you're eating enough as you haven't given much info on portion sizes, but a couple of things...

The fact that you're having a snack mid morning indicates that either your breakfast isn't big ennough or that you should ditch the fruit as it often leads to people feeling hungrier sooner, or possibly both.

Whilst we don't count calories here nuts are extremely calorie dense. They are also a poor source of fat due to their omega 3 to 6 ratio and are recommended to be eaten in moderation only - say a closed handful every other day. They are notoriously hard on the digestive system, and often the cause of skin break outs. Snacking like this will also prevent your body from becoming fat adapted - really it needs that 4-5hr window to learn to tap into fat stores. You on the other hand have been topping up on fuel...

Pre wo you need to be eating fat, not fruit. Fruit provides an immediate source of fuel in the form of sugar and again prevents your body from tapping into it's fat stores for fuel. No fruit postWO either... and on that note I see no post WO meal mentioned.

32oz of water is fine if you weigh 65 pounds - I'm guessing you don't - aim for a half an ounce of water per pound of body weight, daily.

Work on your sleep hygiene to improve sleep (no screen time for an hour or so before bed, dim the lights after sunset, waken at the same hour every day and eat within an hour of wakening, spend 15mins outdoors at the same time every day...) and maybe look at adding in a magnesium supplement which acts as a muscle relaxant.

All of these things should help you to see further improvements.

What do you recommend eating before a run?

The recommendation is for protein and fat, so something like a soft boiled egg would work, or chicken & mayo/olives. Some people opt to eat just fat - so olives, guac etc.
