Day 2 and Just Not Hungry - Ever... At All!

Recommended Posts

OK, so I did a search on this topic as it is only day two for me and I am a total newbie, but didn't see exactly my situation. I started the Whole30 yesterday - yeah! And, weird... just not hungry! Before I started, I did eat a lot of carbs (in general, I didn't actually binge on anything, no ice cream, pizza and beer the night before I started :) ) just did eat a lot of carbs in my "old" way of eating.

I am 140 pounds overweight, but very active ( I have a job where I am on my feet and moving at least 4-5 hours a day). But, I wasn't hungry at all yesterday, forced myself to eat all three meals according to the meal planning guide (tons of veggies, good fats and 4-5 ounces of protein at all three meals), and still, not hungry. I had a cup of coffee black yesterday, but only drank about 6 ounces, cut the coffee this morning, and still feel like eating is a forced march. Weird, because I LOVE to cook, LOVE, LOVE, LOVE to eat, and have been making really delicious dishes for each meal - thanks Whole30 recipes  and Well Fed 1 & 2.

I am working in the kitchen right now to get us prepped for our work week (today is my Sunday) and the smells are amazing, I am having a great time rocking to the music, and none of the great food looks even remotely appealing.

Weirdest of all, absolutely NOT craving carbs - I am 48 (female) - whacked hormones?

And, of course, sleep was not happening last night, and terrible tummy upset (not during the day, just when I went to sleep - about two hours after eating).

Sorry for the long post, just wanted to give anyone with insight all the details. I will keep forcing myself to eat, but each meal is getting increasingly more difficult. Thanks for any help or advice you have to give!

whacked hormones?

Right answer.

Unfortunately all you can do for now is to continue to try and eat, ensuring you get a little of each food group, then wrapping up what you don't finish at the first sitting to eat as soon as you feel able (ie. don't just wait until the next meal) - your appetite will soon come around.

How often did you eat pre Whole30?

Oh boy moderator - you've hit the nail on the head and I should have realized it! Uh, would love to say I am a pillar of consistency on the eating schedule thing, but I'm (correct that, WAS) out of control on scheduling. I never ate breakfast and was rarely hungry for it. Then carbs at 11am... then I would get busy and do sugared coffee in the afternoon... then starving by 6pm and overeat (usually, again, heavy carbs). Then, in the past few years, snacking after dinner - which I never used to do. Of course, some days I would eat all day, and others not at all. Wow, just typing this out I feel so sorry for my poor body! Thanks for just being there and asking the right question - I am tearing up as I write this - my body and life deserved so much better than being an afterthought - I was more careful about my cat's diet and getting fed on time than mine!

Don't feel bad about yourself - many, many people who come here have been doing exactly the same thing. But you're here to do something about it, right? And that's the first step in making amends with your body.

For now I don't think you can trust your hunger signals, so stick with the template, three times a day - the first meal (and this is really important in your case) within an hour of wakening - and as I said before eat as much of your meal as you can, then wrap up the remainder to eat as soon as you feel able. Before you know it you'll be looking for breakfast on wakening.

This too will pass.

I am totally committed to this and WILL DO - I opened my first can of organic coconut milk this morning to have with my tea, and am now listening to Don Ho music on Youtube as I warm breakfast!  Thanks so much for your help and support!

OP, we are very similar (though I am in my 30s, in all other respects your profile seems similar to mine) and just FYI, it took me a solid week to feel hungry again at all, and I didn't get hungry for food when I woke up until more than halfway through my W30. (I'd loathed breakfast my whole life.)
