Missed periods since March W30

Hi Everyone,

Let me preface this with I have an appointment with my healthcare provider in order to explore this further, but I'm curious if anyone else has had a similar experience.  I did a Whole 30 in March and had fantastic results.  My periods were super regular (like to the minute regular) prior to March but all of sudden mine is just missing.  My period in March was lighter and shorter than normal but that seems to be a general trend on the forum.  I went through what I thought was PMS in April (fatigue, hungrier than normal, bloating) but no period.  I'm now officially 15 days late and no, I'm not pregnant.  I took a test just to double check but my partner also had a vasectomy 2 years ago.  Has anyone else experienced this after completing a whole 30?

In April, I off-roaded here and there because you know, life after whole 30, but generally remained compliant.  I can count on one hand how many off roading experiences there were within the month so nothing too drastic.  I've been completely compliant again since April 26th.  I'm definitely eating plenty-3 meals a day with 4-5 hours in between, starchy veg in at least 1 meal, my energy level and workouts are great, and I'm drinking 120+ oz of water daily.  I'm not dropping weight like crazy although my body composition is continuing to change.  My doctor will tell me that I still have extra weight on me, so I'm definitely not underweight at 5'8 and 195ish.  I do continue to workout 5-6 days per week, but that's been my norm for a while.  Any ideas or advice?

Thanks!

Are you eating enough?  Sometimes our bodies shut down unnecessary functions when we're not appropriately fueling them...

I think I'm eating enough.  I'm eating a pre-workout meal if needed and a post-workout meal daily on top of my 3 meals at the upper end of the template.  I'll also add in another meal or mini-meal if I'm still hungry but that's pretty rare.

Here's a typical day for me:

Pre-workout: Black coffee or coffee with coconut milk, a hard boiled egg or a few bites of chicken (this is dependent on the intensity of the workout and how hungry I am when I wake up.  I tend to do better fasting if the workout is super intense).

Post-workout: 1/2 chicken breast and 1/4 sweet potato on most days; occasionally a chicken epic bar and a baby food pack

Meal 1: 4 eggs (sometimes 5 or I add a chicken sausage), 1.5 cups of spinach or kale, 1 cup of whatever other random veggies sound good that morning (peppers, asparagus, mushrooms), 1/2 avocado or a large dollop of guacamole, 1/2 GT's kombucha, black coffee or coffee with coconut milk

Meal 2: Typically a large salad: 4 heaping handfuls of spinach, 1.5 chicken breasts, approx 1/3 cup strawberries, 1/2 avocado, 1 hard boiled egg, sometimes other random veggies are thrown in just because, all topped with olive oil and balsamic vinegar (this salad fills one of the large plastic food storage containers)

Meal 3: Usually 2 palm sizes of protein (this varies as my fiance usually cooks for me) but tends to be chicken breast or thighs, beef burgers, or nom nom paleo kalua pork, steamed broccoli or cauliflower rice topped with ghee, and sweet potato (1-2 fists) with ghee and cinnamon.

If I need to add a mini meal, I always have prepped veggies (carrots, bell peppers, leftover cooked veggies), hard boiled eggs or chicken sausage, and either guacamole, ghee, or the occasional serving of almond or cashew butter, all prepped in my fridge.  There may also be an occasional epic bar or rx bar since I work in a hospital and it can get crazy.

Water: 120+ ounces daily

Okay, I have to say that I am so impressed with your meals!  It's not often that we have nothing to add to the meals that would stand out as a reason for the troubleshooting! Very good job!

That said, I'm going to suggest that this is probably just your hormones rebalancing themselves but I'm very glad you're going to see the doctor to rule out anything serious...

Thanks for the quick (and positive!) feedback!  I'm assuming that it's something to do with my hormones re-balancing too but it's definitely unusual for me to be this far off of my normal routine.  Hopefully I'll get some answers tomorrow when I see the doctor.

Keep in mind diet changes - good and bad - can prompt the body to delay ovulation until it figures out if the changes are good or bad. It's a survival of the species thing - don't ovulate (and get pregnant) during times of stress. Delayed ovulation means delayed period. Anecdotally, women around here that aren't on birth control tend to have delayed ovulation as av result. (Women on BC tend to get it early - they don't ovulate on most forms of bc.)

Just an update-I'm definitely not pregnant, two urine tests and a blood test have confirmed this.  My doctor didn't seem overly concerned at this point but said it's a little unusual that someone so regular is all of a sudden skipping periods.  He even joked that maybe I needed to start drinking and eating sugar again, haha!  Basically he said that if I don't start cycling again by the first weekend in July, he will investigate further.  He did mention that if things don't go back to normal, he wants me back on hormonal birth control which doesn't thrill me, but we shall see what happens.  Thanks for your support!

This happens to me, but I put it down to maybe being peri-menopause (I'm 45). I did mention to my doctor, but she was not concerned. I am now 10 days late and, like you, I had all the symptoms of getting my period, but it didn't show. Now feeling quite bloated the last few days.

How have things been for you since your last update Orca_chick?

Hi Isabella,

It's definitely not peri-menopause for me since I just turned 30 in February.  My period is still MIA so I'll be following up with my doctor in early July just to see if we can identify what's going on...

Thanks for checking in!
