R2 Before Summer

Day 1 was easier than the first time.  This time around I do want to lose weight, first time all I cared about was getting through and realizing my triggers.  First time around it was all about my skin.  My skin did not clear up but I felt so much better in all other ways I have decided to do another before summer is official.  My NSV's included lower blood pressure, lower AST level, better sleep and better attitude (although the skin still gets me really down)  and the biggest one, as far as I'm concerned, totally tamed my sugar dragon.  Before I did the Whole30 I had no idea how much time thinking about eating sweets occuppied for me, in the drug store, waiting in line at the grocery store, etc.  Now I can totally go in these places and not even think about it. YAY!!!

Weight: 171

Age 57

Day 2, I didn't get to post but my only comment is I was tired.

Day 3, already the more pleasant attitude is coming back and the feeling of being lighter and thinner, even though I'm sure I haven't lost any more weight.

Nothing is hard except for the anticipation of no Wine.  Even hubby said how much wine do you want me to get tomorrow?  Hello!!!

Day 4 was uneventful in terms of effects.  I do have to put together a meal plan because we are just continuing on as usual where in life out of Whole30 we at mostly paleo anyways.  A meal plan makes things so much easier.

My meals are pretty much the same for breakfast and dinner.

Breakfast: 3 eggs (as many as fit in my hand)

cooked in ghee with potatoes, bell peppers and a third veg that I have left over.  Usually it is tomatoes.

Lunch: left over dinner.

Last night dinner was ground beef over spaghetti squash (I eat a lot of this), cut up cucumbers with mayo and a few potatoes.

I am one of those people who have to make sure I have a carb at every meal, I had a few bouts of depression last time and always felt better when I had more carbs.

Day 5, usual breakfast, feeling exhausted - so I think I have skipped Kill all the things and gone right to I just want a nap.  I wonder if in R2 things progress more quickly?  I remember that the most amazing thing about the first time is how much energy I had (which I'm guessing might be the old lady's - I'm 57, going to be 58 ARRRGGGHHHH- version of tiger's blood).  I've actually had numerous conversations with people telling them - it's amazing, you wake up and you are ready to go!!

However right now, that feeling is just a memory.

First time I really did struggle with killing all the things so I'm glad to avoid that, if possible.

Day 8, not feeling the surge of energy yet but I'm getting there.  The weekend was hard because we had friends over for dinner and I had no WINE.   Everyone had white before dinner and a special bottle of red with dinner (which was amazing lamb) so I was very tempted to pack it in, but I didn't.   :D

I have purchased enough meat, for the next couple of weeks at least, at CostCo - they have good organic beef and chicken there.  I need to make some broth and get more veggies.  I sometimes struggle with the veggies.  I have a tendency to always return to my go to's - butternut squash, zucchini, tomatoes.  I do need to branch out.

Good job not giving in to the wine! I have weekly dinner with my brother's family. They are big wine drinkers. For some reason this month, they've switched to drinking an Old Fashioned with dinner. Thank goodness I hate whiskey or I would have been sorely tempted each week!

Is there are farmers market nearby? What's in season where you are? I'm guessing the first of the early crops like asparagus, spinach, lettuce, radish, It's so fun to go to the markets and talk to the people that grow stuff. You'll be inspired to cook new veggies!

Ooooh, old fashioneds, we used to live in Wisconsin and they made great old-fashioneds there.  I miss them.

Day 10 and feeling just OK.  Have had an allergic reaction to, I think cut grass, and face is swollen and hands are itchy but it's been way worse so I'm not complaining.

I am having cravings for a Diet Coke and I totally quit the pop in my first Whole30 and never went back so that is weird.

We have the most amazing farmers markets and asparagus is ripe and ready.  Unfortunately they are on Saturday mornings and I work on Saturdays.  I send the hubby and he is great at getting my compliant bacon but not too great at discerning if the veggies are good or not.  Believe it or not I am allergic to the plant family - Compositae - that lettuce is part of.  However, spinach sounds like a great thing to get fresh - maybe I'll try that.

Day 18, I was counting wrong before as I just noticed on a work calendar.  Cravings totally gone, so that is interesting that it takes me 16-18 days to tame my sugar dragon.  The last week was tough as I wanted to pack it in almost every day.  It has been uncharacteristically very hot here and everyone is drinking cold, tasty beer.

I'm pretty confident I'll survive tonight, as I am going to book club and that is usually a wine and snacking extravaganza.

NSV's already feel tons of energy, good mood to the point that I even wonder why I'm in a good mood.  Oh yeah, right, Whole30.
