Puckertoe's first 30.

Ok. So I've committed to doing a 30.

Not much of a writer, but had been eating very well lately, however a week of doing some decorating to help out my son and I fell off the food trolley!

One bread roll and it takes me three days to stop eating like a pig.

I had snickers, bread, and just couldn't stop. Tried to eat fruit but all I could do was eat crap, like stuffed and overful.

That hurts. I feel bad cos I was doing really well, my jeans were getting looser and I was doing loads of cycling and walking.

How and why do you stop trying to kill yourself with food. It doesn't happen often, but when I hit the carbs they just take over my brain.

So whole 30 on Monday.

Usual breakfast for me is bacon and mushrooms, no eggs cos they give me excema, though I do enjoy one now and again.

Hardest part for me is going to be dairy. I eat yogurt and berries before a long ride, with my bacon mushroom and tomatoes. Cooked in butter.

Using coconut oil is OK. I commit to no butter! God,did I say that. NO BUTTER.

So, I'm away the weekend for a meet up with friends. Then Monday is start day.

Day 1

Feeling really positive this morning. Told husband the rules for the umpteenth time and checked that he is willing to join me still in this madness.

First thing emptied the cupboards of absolutely everything that was on the NO list. Even read the labels!

Tomato paste has sunflower oil in it...never knew that. My coconut milk has an assortment of things which are suulphate based. MSG.now I know that's not good, but need read I before. Stupid I know but thought it was coconut milk and don't take my reading glasses with me shopping.

Writing a shopping list and going shopping.

Decided to go into town as I know there is a butcher's, a fishmongers and a green grocer here. I am new to the area and lazily use the Sainsburys.

Breakfast...bacon, mushroom, egg, cooked in coconut oil.

Lunch..chicken thigh with stir fried peppers, aubergines, mangetout,

Black tea with lemon

Dinner..home made meatballs in tomatoes sauce (tomatoes, and water simmered to thicken)

On cauli rice.

Glass of water.

Couldn't eat much dinner, felt full very quickly. 3 small meat balls filled me up.

Made big pot of soup with Turkey giblets from butcher. Veggies and tonight's leftovers thrown in for good measure. Going to see my son tomorrow, so will take the pot and some extra veggies and chicken for dinner in the evening.

Morning day 2

Slept really badly, went off to sleep then woke 2hours later Really Hangry...got up and prowled. Went back to sleep eventually then woke late feeling groggy.Big dreams about being in an accident and being in hospital with injuries.

Hope that's about healing.

Don't feel hungry at all,but will now make breakfast.

Felt OK, relatively chilled considering being stuck on the M6 for ages in heavy traffic.

Got to my son's for lunch time. Took the pot of soup out the van and heated up.

Bored with it by the second bowl full! Really not that great.

Now thinking about dinner. Grumbling tummy and the Well Fed Cook book on kindle, for inspiration.

Welcome to the journey! A couple things I've picked up while browsing these forums (nearly obsessively...)

Are you using back bacon or streaky bacon? In the US, all bacon is the streaky kind from the belly and is nearly all fat. Therefore, bacon is considered a fat on this diet. BUT, if you are using back bacon, it is a protein. Just want to make sure you are getting enough protein at breakfast!

And the dinner before your bad night sleep doesn't have any added fat. The recommendation is to ADD fat (beyond what you cook with) to each meal. About a thumb, or a tablespoon worth. It will keep you full longer and hopefully you won't wake up hangry! :) But those first few days are so much transition that you might not be able to prevent that for awhile.

Good luck! Sounds like you won't have to make too many changes from your regular diet, so this should be a breeze!

Hey, thanks. You're right I didn't add extra fat to last night's meal. I looked like loads of fat, I did have 1/2 an avocado which was didn't write here though. So should have been OK.

My bacon was fat, fat, fat. It was called "salt cured fat bacon" and has a fat rind 2 inches wide. I discovered it at the butcher yesterday. It reminded me of how bacon should taste, and did once. It was hellish expensive and worth every penny!

Thanks for the encouragement. Think I just need to eat more, specially fat.

Tonight I've made a real fish curry, coconut milk, coconut cream, tomatoes, fish and butternut squash.

I'm determined not to wake up killing the pillow and eating it tonight.

Day 3

Slept great...until 5:30am. Then fitfully until falling asleep and waking up late again at 9:00am.

Breakfast..strawberries, an apple, bacon,tomatoes,2 hugeeggs, ghee, tea with lemon.

Feeling..average,but inspired to great things after hearing Niki Spinks on Radio 4. Not sure I'm up to a Double Bob Graham , but may be celebrate my age with some endurance fun.

Lunch.. Black pudding made by the butcher.broccoli, green beans avocado.an orange.

Wow, a W30 compliant black pudding in a butchers? I'm impressed! What did they use as the filler out of interest.....?

According to the guy it has no filler. It comes in a tray, blood and fat. Thats what he said..no packaging so have I made a boo boo? Not sure I actually am going to 'freak out' if it did you know. Maybe my relationshio with food isn't that bad. I'll just add a few few more days on the end if you as a moderator think I'm non compliant. Not a problem.

Dinner. Venison, ghee, broccoli, carrot, sweet potato, apple. Big coffee no milk sugar or crap.

Thinking that I'm really enjoying the freedom from thinking for myself. Went out to a local cafe to meet a friend this afternoon. Sat facing the cake stand, didn't have to feel guilty about joining my friend indulging in a milky latte and a cake. Just had black coffee..no choice to make unless you call deciding on a fruit tea or a coffee a choice.

How do I feel this evening? Bit hungry, but there's no food in the house I can eat.. There's a walnut cake and a packet of cheese scones, cheese, milk, and that sort of thing. I'm not going to tease myself by going in the kitchen.(I'm at my son's house). It's been a good day.

Tired but wired last night. I know exactly what that was. The coffee with a friend after midday.

Feeling a bit hungover this morning, mainly because someone slammed a door whilst I was fast asleep. Not any more.

Need to keep caffeine for am. Maybe kick it out completely.

Day 4.

Rant warning.

I think I feel in control of food this morning, for the first time in my life perhaps.

So empowered.

I've been struggling with my weight for 30+ years, gradually losing that struggle and fighting obesity. Even though I am really active and was an athlete.

Today, I KNOW. I CAN. DO THIS.

I'm doing it for me. I'm doing it for my dad. Who died at aged 61 from a massive heart attack. Killed by government food guidelines, the industrialisation of food production and the food producers who sell addictive, processed dross and market it to us as food;by money grabbing global corpoates who don't give a crap about you or me, but whoes only concern is the bottom line.

It a raised middle finger to those

Who stopped my mum and dad enjoying, what should have been a wonderful retirement together. My mum died at 85,never having forgiven herself for taking the pleasure of food away from my dad and feeding him low fat and government so called 'heart healthy'fats, no pleasure foods, that ultimately caused his untimely death.

Fortunately I never stopped eating butter, eggs and real food. Even if it was a high white carb diet because that was what I was told was healthy, I kept eating butter and eggs against all the advice during the 70s and 80s. I can count the times I've used margerine like Flora,in the tens of times.

I've no idea.

It's certainly  possible to make without a filler, but rare in the UK. I've seen plenty of gluten free varieties, but never a grain free one, but if the Butcher said it was just meat, blood & fat, and there was no packaging to refer to, then you have to take his word for it!

Feeling today

Bloated

Bored with food. So made Mayo, smoked salmon plate with some cheap trimmings, ghee, baked a whole bag if chiken since I cat freeze it, cooked beetroots.

Headache probably a teavshortage there.

Hungry after lunch. Can make it from breaky to lunch with no prob. And from dinner to breakfast which is 14 hours but after lunch I feel crazy. Felt fat craving.

Can't eat the quantity of meals to keep me going after lunch for some reason. Maybe need to be patient and stomach will expand a bit.

Otherwise ok

Had to get up and eat a mini meal as hunger was stopping me sleeping. Small piece sweet potato, slice cucumber, a radish, chicken drumstick and a dollop of Mayo. Never ever have eaten at this time of night in my life.

Why am I starving hungry when I ate a huge dinner?

Dreadful night! Really crap. Couldn't sleep. Couldn't go to sleep because of hunger and then jus bad night. Since my sleep is never good this is a problem for me. Don't know that I will continue on W30 if this doesn't get better within a few days.
