Hbernet
Every day I wake up very puffy, hands and face mostly. I drink a lot of water through the day, and eating correctly. Could it be too much salt or a certain food? What should I do first? I am planning on going past Day 30 until I get this figured out.
jmcbn
It could possibly be a reaction to something you are eating...Can you give us a run down of what exactly you have eaten over the past say 4 days, giving specific types of veg, portion sizes etc & that way we'll be in a better position to help you troubleshoot.I assume you are salting your food? You say you are drinking a lot of water, but are you drinking the recommended half an ounce of water per pound of body weight daily?
Hbernet
I drink 1/2 my weight in ounces, yes. Here are the foods I have eaten: Protiens: Eggs, chicken, ground beef, steaks, almond butter, pistachios, almonds Veggies: sweet peppers, onions, mixed greens, tomatoes, garlic Fats: Avocados, Avocado Mayo, very little ghee Fruits: strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, bananas, Granny Smith apples Other: black coffee, earl grey tea, mushrooms That's it for the types of food, and I do use salt, but I don't think I use a lot of salt. One thing: I cleaned a bathroom yesterday with "Comet" - aka bleach dust... Could that be a factor? However I have noticed every morning feeling a bit "puffy." Hbernet
Portion sizes have been equivalent to what is recommended, But I did eat about a cup and a half of fruit(berries and 1/2 a banana) last night later than I should have and I had some fresh cherries too. jmcbn
Nuts and nut butters are a fat source rather than a protein - and both are inclined to cause a number of symptoms when eaten more than is recommended, which would be a closed handful every other day. You're also eating a lot of FODMAPs - mushrooms, avocado, onion, garlic, nuts/nut butters, apples, bananas & coffee...What do your meals actually look like? Can you list a few days worth of actual meals so that we can see the composition & frequency of foods?
Hbernet
Breakfast: 2 fried eggs (fried in ghee) with some blueberries or green peppers, coffee, Snack (occasional) apple with almond butter Lunch: 2 cups Olivia's Organics Spring Mix lettuces with either a 1/2 or whole avocado, 1 cup grilled chicken breast, 1 Roma Tomato, 1/2 cup carrots, 2 tbsp. Annie's Tuscany salad dressing (all the ingredients looked to be approved) Dinner: 1/2 cup of each cooked ground beef, roasted zucchini, roasted bell peppers, tomatoes, 1/4 cup of cooked onions and mushrooms, all cooked in olive oil. (All cooked together for a "skillet meal." Or I will have steak or grilled chicken with steamed broccoli and a sweet potato, Sometimes after a meal I will have some berries and sometimes a banana, but I don't eat a lot of bananas, mostly I have berries. Hbernet
I could cut out the nuts and FODMAPS and see how I feel, but concerned about getting enough fat. Perhaps have a tablespoon of coconut oil while I test it out? How long should I avoid those food before reintroducing them?
jmcbn
The removal of any food that is problematic is usually followed by a reduction in symptoms within days.FODMAPs usually cause bloating rather then 'puffiness', but nuts/nut butters (if you're eating them daily) could easily be your culprit. Eggs are another thing that can cause puffiness/inflammation, as can the tomatoes/peppers you look to be eating fairly regularly. I'd start with the nuts first though and if there is no improvement review the situation again. As far as fat is concerned you could use home made mayo, or mayo based sauces, all kinds of oils (apart from the off limit ones obviously!) from which you can also make dressings, ghee, tallow, lard, duck/goose fat, compliant bacon, olives.....
