My first Whole30, starting tomorrow morning (May 16)!

Recommended Posts

I read the book last week and am starting my Whole30 tomorrow morning. I am nervous but very excited, and I know I really need this. I need to slay my Sugar Dragon and find my Tiger Blood!

My reasons for doing this are to get rid of my 3:00 slump and sugar cravings, find more energy, and improve my sleep and GERD. I am pretty sure once I clean up my eating, I will lose weight pretty quickly, but that's not my main motivation. I just want to feel healthier.

Good luck to everyone else starting tomorrow!

The first week was a bit of a roller coaster, but I stuck with it and woke up feeling *GREAT* today. Day one: felt hungover, had a headache. Day two: Felt a little off, but better than day one. Went out to eat with a friend, which was a PITA but I called ahead with questions and made it through while sticking to Whole30. Day three-four: I can't remember, and I don't think it was that remarkable. I do remember the food/eating is easier than I thought it'd be. Day five: Felt awful later in the day. Sweet cravings were out of control, but I remained in check. I was offered a brownie and other treats at a school event, and stuck to my guns through that. In the evening, my kids were eating chocolate and I nearly threw in the towel but hung in there with a smoothie. I know it wasn't ideal to deal with a craving that way, but the ingredients were compliant and kept me from quitting altogether. Sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do. Day six: Felt exhausted and foggy all day. Avoided fruit due to the Friday night smoothie incident. Took the multivitamin recommended in the book (Pure Essentials w/ Vitamin K) and fish oil. Went out to eat with friends and my kids at Jasons Deli; read their ingredients online ahead of time and ended up taking my own chicken and salad dressing and got veggies on their salad bar. It was delicious, and definitely the way to go if I have to eat out! Day seven: Woke up feeling AMAZING!!! I hope this feeling sticks, but after all that, I am determined to stick it out! Last night I made my eating plan for the week, which includes some recipes I am really excited about, and this morning ate a good breakfast and made my grocery list to go shopping and prep later today.

Mglawe, how are you doing? Any insight from your first week? I hope you're doing well!

  • 4 weeks later...

Today is my last day! I kind of can't believe I did it! I feel awesome and my clothes are all loose! I think I've totally kicked my sugar addiction, gotten my head around planning and cooking at home regularly, and know that if any of my bad habits come back, I can always come back and do another Whole 30. In the meantime, I'm going to try to stay as close to Whole 30 eating as possible when I'm home, and am looking forward to being able to go out to eat socially without being a pain in everyone's butt.
