Candy Crush

This may seem silly but one of my goals for my Whole30 is to stop playing Candy Crush when I go to bed.  I am on day 5 of my Whole30 and, so far, things are going great.  I worked with a similar diet plan earlier but this one suits me much better.  I think  sometimes the keto diets get a little fanatical.  This is closer to how I would like to eat forever ... yummy recipes and options!

But ... I have trouble falling asleep.  This is a lifelong issue for me and I was hoping the Whole30 would set me up for successful zzzzzz.  Yet, I continually undermine myself my playing Candy Crush after I get under the sheets.  Problem is I LOVE it!  It's like fear of flying - I know everything will be fine if I don't play (I know the flight is safe) but my mind tells me I won't be able to relax without it.  It's my emotional sugar.

Any thoughts?

I think you might have to go at it from a 'rules' perspective... sometimes that's what it takes to break a habit...

So make yourself some 'rules'.  Don't take the phone into the bedroom with you... or if you use it as an alarm and it has to go in, it doesn't need to go right beside the bed... charge it away from where you can reach it.

Take a magnesium supplement like Natural Calm about 30-40 min before bed... that stuff'll zonk you out... and why would you want to fight the nice sleepy feeling by forcing yourself to stay awake to play a game.

Tell yourself your sleep will be SO much better without screen time right before bed.

Play your game for 20 min BEFORE you take your natural calm and tuck into bed.

Delete the app from your phone.

You gotta just jump in with some of these types of things, just like you did when you started the Whole30.

In March I decided to go gameless for the whole month. Funny how it was almost like when I detoxed from sugar - a bit stressful, anxiety producing. I even found myself bargaining i.e. If I get the bills paid, I can relax with just a few games. I didn't give in to it, though. The pull it has for me has ever so much less strength now. Haven't deleted the app but choose it only occasionally and only for a few minutes but not before bed. I think doing it for the whole month made all the difference. For me, the way to break a habit is to just break the habit.

Thank you.  Yes, I didnt' play last night but did read for a while because i'm in the habit of doing something like that before I go to sleep.  I am going to stop until the end of the Whole30 and see if it helps.  I'm going to treat it like food.  It's has almost all the same effects/results as over iindulging in sugar!

Wonderful!  Seriously, that's the best way and when I started journalling or reading before bed instead of playing around on instagram, I noticed that I was more in tune with my sleep signals... with devices, we can get almost numbed and ignore sleep signals... I can't wait to hear how this affects you so please let us know on this thread as you go along!
