Food Disinterest

Recommended Posts

I've looked around in this forum some to try to see if anyone else is experiencing this and I did find some helpful stuff, but I feel like there may be more input out there.
This is my 3rd whole30, I'm on day 11 (which I just saw on the timeline is one of the hardest days, good to know!). I remember an article saying basically that you get tired of telling yourself "no" all the time, but I don't think that's my problem, I just am so disinterested in the food I'm making and find it so unappealing. I'm hungry, so I eat, and I try to eat a lot, but I have food aversions similar to my first trimesters of pregnancy. I eat eggs daily for breakfast when I'm not doing a whole30, but they go down easier with bread or cheese. This is definitely more meat than we normally eat, and some days it's really hard to eat meat at lunch and dinner. I am a pretty good cook and have been trying lots of new recipes, I've barely cooked the same thing twice. Things that normally used to appeal to me (avocado, kalua pork, aidell's chicken sausage, prosciutto, cauliflower, broccoli) suddenly turn my stomach.

Maybe I'm pregnant! Haha. But really I'm not.

Things that sound good are sweet potatoes, white potatoes, any fruit, selected veggies, beef stew...

I'm trying to cook whatever sounds best but even that changes hourly (again, like pregnancy!).

Will this pass? Should I eat more fat, or eat more? Should I give up coffee? I'm breastfeeding so I really like starting my day with a good amount of coconut milk in my coffee, but have no trouble giving it up.

I'm on instagram as @bluegrass_whole30 and I've posted every meal on there (excluding occasional snacks).

Thanks for any input.

Just had to add, the first week or so was a breeze and just the last few days have been hard. I've been trying to limit my consumption of white potatoes but maybe I should just add starch (sweet or white potatoes) to more meals for now?

Food fatigue is pretty common from what I've read. I'm on day 50something and in general, I'm over that point. I'd say it was super bad in week 2 but pretty much cleared up for me by week 3. For a couple of weeks, I literally had to choke down my eggs. I'm back to loving them again (thank goodness - not sure if I could stand meat at every single meal!). I still have odd food aversions - yes, just like pregnancy! Most of them involve fats. I used to love avocados and olives. 90% of the time, I gag even cutting open an avocado now. I also can't stand the smell of lard anymore (I might just have a "piggy" jar at the moment). And coconut oil is AWFUL in my opinion!

Anyway, you are certainly not alone! I don't have much advice except to stick it out and it will hopefully pass soon. Perhaps there are some tips and tricks though that the experts know!

Thanks, madness! I looked over my food from the last few days and noticed I was actually pretty low on starch in general so I definitely had a big serving of oven roasted potatoes with dinner. I will just keep on keepin' on and hopefully it will pass! So sad you are turned off by avocados, too! I never thought I'd see the day, personally! I do think my sense of taste is more heightened so that may have something to do with it?

Listened to "The Splendid Table" podcast while I cooked dinner tonight to try to get my food-lovin mojo back.
