Hot flashes Increased

Yes, even after I finished, I notice that if I eat sugary things or hot tea or even just some meals with some fat, I get something that resembles a hot flash although it is usually not as intense as it was a few years ago.  I have decided that it might be just that my metabolism and fat burning capabilities are just heightened.  Have you lost much weight or size?  The book also talks about hormonal changes from the diet.

Oh, I hope the hot flashes let up for you ladies! When I did my first Whole 30 they completely stopped for me during the third week. About a week before starting my second round they started up again but stuck with me this time. I was hoping to pin it down through reintroduction, but since they were with me during my Whole 30, I'm outta luck!

I, too, have more hot flashes than before my W30.  I'm looking forward to reintroducing soy, in the form of edamame, as I believe that edamame helped reduce the evil hotness back when I was first menopausal.  Anyone else think that the absence of soy may be the culprit?

Whole30, when done by both rules and recommendations, will work to shuffle out and rebalance your hormones.  This is why you may be seeing increased hot flashes.  Most people who experience this report that it balances out over time.  Soy is a known hormone disruptor and I would personally be very hesitant including it in my diet at all (I don't) but even moreso in trying to self-medicate with this item.

I'm with ladyshanny in that soy is not something I'd want to include in my diet, ever.

If your hot flushes continue post Whole30 there is a tincture made from red peony which is used (with almost immediate results) in the treatment of menopausal night sweats & hot flushes. Unlike many other herbal remedies such as sage and clove oil, red peony does not impact the body's natural oestrogen levels and so can be taken along side hormonal medications such as HRT.

Unfortunately the tincture contains ethanol (alcohol) and so is off limits during your Whole30.

I have never heard of tincture before. Is it a powder, vitamin, or oil? Would this be something that is found in a whole foods store?

A quick google search says: "A medicine made by dissolving a drug in alcohol".  Whole Foods and most vitamin stores would have tinctures.

My hot flashes actually decreased, as did that crazy bloat.  But I am strictly going by the rules.  Also viewing this not as a "diet", but as an elimination program that will will help pinpoint what are problem foods for me and result in great health.  Cleaning out the house before day 1 was extremely helpful.

I was (am?) perimenopausal when I started the Whole30 on June 1.  By day 20 I was overheating at night.  By day 25 I was overheating at random times/places - including the cold section at the market!  I figured the Whole30 adjusted my hormones and made my body do what it was supposed to do.  I'm only 5 days out now, so will wait and see what happens.
