Bywater
I started doing my hunting and planning for the Whole30 and I discovered thinly sliced jicama that I could use for taco shells. I know jicama is fine, but would using it for a taco shell be breaking the rules? It's the don't sub advice that I'm trying to sort out.
laura_juggles
Are you only thinly slicing the jicama and putting taco stuff on/in it? That would be okay in the same way filling a lettuce leaf with chicken salad and calling it a "wrap" is okay. If you're doing a whole bunch of stuff to it and, like, mixing it with coconut flour to make some kind of tortilla-ish thing, then that'd be a no. Moderators ShannonM816 Posted May 31, 2016 Moderators Share Posted May 31, 2016 Have you seen this explanation of SWYPO? laura_juggles is right -- if you're just slicing jicama really thin and using it sort of the way you'd use a lettuce wrap, you're good to go. Bywater
It actually comes in paper thin slices so it's very much of a "wrap" item with no real work on my part (I HATE peeling jicama). The store also has it wrapped around fresh carrot slices and fresh cucumber slices. That's too much veg for me with my issues, but I can taco it up with homemade meat and guac. Moderators ShannonM816 Posted June 3, 2016 Moderators Share Posted June 3, 2016 That sounds amazing. Where did you find it? I don't know where Bywater is, but I've seen them at my local grocery store -- here's what the package looks like. I keep meaning to try them but haven't yet. You can slice your own, but you'll need a mandolin slicer or a really, really sharp knife and a steady hand, because they need to be really thin or they'll just break when you try to fold them. Here's some instructions.
Bywater
I'm in Houston and I find them at the larger HEB grocery stores. I'll snag some snapshots this weekend.
