Meglin
Hi everyone! I noticed that a LOT of us started our Whole30 on June 1, but there are so many different threads that it is difficult to keep track of responses and successes! Hopefully we can make this thread our "go-to" for advice, venting, recipes, and any other thoughts that need group support. I'll start the group out by introducing myself and my background on why I elected to embark on Whole30. I am a 23 year old teacher who is currently on summer break, and this school year, I have gained a bit of weight. It is all in my tummy area and is definitely due to bloating from a terrible, processed, unnatural diet. I did the Whole30 last June but ended after day 15 when I went camping with friends. My results were incredible in those 15 days, though, and I can't wait to see how much better they are when I complete all 30! I have issues with chronic fatigue, inflammation of the joints in my fingers, and would like to lose about 10 pounds. I also have a terrible addiction to Hot Cheetos and am a chronic snacker. I can't wait to join in your journey and celebrate your success when we reach June 30!
science_n_salsa
Hi! I didn't see this thread before I posted a similar thread. Woops. How's your first day going?
Meglin
lol, Great minds think alike! Day one is going very well. It is easier this time around because I am not over-complicating my meals. Today, everything was easy and simple, but still compliant to what I should be eating. I haven't had any cravings (besides wanting a Dr. Pepper in the morning, but that is more habitual.) How about your first day?
BigMomma
Hello everyone! Day one is done! 29 to go. It wasn't so bad (well except for the black coffee). I stayed compliant, kept it simple and no real cravings which is suprising since I drank a lot of Diet Coke. I'm just taking it one day at a time instead of thinking of all the days to go. I made clarified butter and mayo tonight. The mayo was a disaster, lol. I can't wait to see the changes that happen as this is my first time doing this. science_n_salsa
It went pretty well! I definitely need to eat bigger breakfasts to avoid losing my mind close to lunch. I drank my coffee black today for the first time ever, in m life. It wasn't bad! Chocolate is going to be my real struggle. Overall, a successful first day! Lisa_pal
Me too! So excited to see what this will do for me - looking forward to losing weight, increasing energy and hopefully even encouraging my husband to give it try. He thinks he doesn't have stomach issues, but oh yeah, he does...he needs this program. Anyway, so thankful to a co-worker for telling me about Whole30. First day down, taking it one day at a time....enjoying the food one bite at a time, and looking forward to a life-changing month ahead. Good luck everyone. Yes, we can do this!! iteach
Thanks for posting! I've tried a few times to join a group but it seems the just thread just stops. I'm also a teacher and on summer break, attempting to recharge my batteries and break some bad habits from this past school year. I'm looking forward to a peaceful summer to refocus. I don't make time to eat healthy foods and exercise and I really do love my Diet Dr. Pepper. I know Whole30 works, I just have to work it well and plan ahead. So far so good with the food and exercise for day 1. Best wishes!
BigMomma
So this morning I woke up with a headache but once I got coffee and breakfast in me I feel way better. By the way my new favorite thing is an apple with crunchy almond butter! It really satisfied the sweet tooth and the ooey gooey texture thing. One (of many) challenges for me is about the mouth feel and texture of food. Good luck all on day 2!
mprideaux
Another June 1st starter here. So far so good at the end of day 2 except my kitchen is a constant mess from prepping, packing lunch, and then bringing back the empty lunch dishes. Hope I can get a good prep schedule going this weekend. Today I was missing my Altoids. I had to give them up since they are just little sugar bombs, but I am admittedly addicted to them. All afternoon I just wanted to pop a mint in my mouth.
BigMomma
Good Morning...Day 2 done and I am amazed at how well it is going so far. Except for a headache again I feel great and no cravings (yet). I have done a program multiple times (the one with points) but I came to a realization this morning. It didn't work for me because basically i was eating the same things. I was making better choices about fruits and veggies but all the other stuff I was still eating. I never felt full. My body was always saying "I WANT MORE!" I was looking for things like whole grains, lower fat/calorie options because they were fewer points but bread is still bread, cheese is still cheese. It is not about how much but what I am eating. I know things probably will get worse and today could be challenging for me because I am off work. My plan is to stay busy working on stuff around the house including some spring cleaning things that I have procrastinated about. I am keeping it simple. If my family wants burgers tonight, then that is what we shall have. My burger will just be compliant, no bun or cheese. For me I find that if I plan too far out then I am focused too much on what I can or can't have. I know it sounds weird but I think that is why that other plan didn't work for me. I was so worried about how many points I was using that I never focused on what can I have for lunch that will still leave me enough points for dinner and a snack. So I am keeping compliant food in the house and going from there. For me it can't be about the entire process, it has to be about the moment. I know this isn't about losing weight, I just always thought that if I lost weight I would feel better health wise. Sorry for the long winded post but I know everyone says to plan, plan and plan. I don't know if there is anyone out there that feels the same way I do but I thought I would share. Good luck all on Day 3!
gonegirl
So this morning I woke up with a headache but once I got coffee and breakfast in me I feel way better. By the way my new favorite thing is an apple with crunchy almond butter! It really satisfied the sweet tooth and the ooey gooey texture thing. One (of many) challenges for me is about the mouth feel and texture of food. Good luck all on day 2! Mouth feel is a big one for me with coffee! If anyone else is struggling with this, wanted to give a tip that has helped me. I usually have once cup in the morning, sweet and light. LOL Real sugar. No sugar I can handle, no half and half was a struggle. So, added coconut OIL - not milk - to my coffee and throw it in a cheapie single serve smoothie maker. It makes an emulsion with the oil. Turns it light so it looks like cream is in it. But the important thing is the mouth feel. And that I'm getting a bit of fat in. I actually started May 31, but at the suggestion of a mod am jumping in on a June 1st day! Hope everyone is doing well today. Yesterday I confronted a few facts about my behaviors and am hoping for a successful/easier day!
science_n_salsa
How did everybody's day 3 go? I am so tired and foggy today.
Lisa_pal
Hi everyone! I have definitely noticed being more tired than usual, too, but I like getting the daily emails that give you a boost as well as tell you what you are likely feeling that day. My husband had asked, why are you so tired? and I knew it was because my body had been used to using sugar for energy and is now trying to adjust without it, but I was able to give him more explanation with the help of the emails and referencing the Whole30 book when necessary. One of my challenges is that I have 4 kids who are of course, not on this bandwagon right now, so there are lots of non-compliant foods in my house. I have pretty good self-control, though, so I feel I can manage it and if I wanted to go off, I'd have supporters right here around me that will remind me not to. Funny story is that my husband likes spinach and before this we rarely ate it as a family, so now that I am adding it to my salads and eggs, he is eyeing up my meals! He is stubborn about his food and does not like to be told what to do, LOL, but I think I'll end up getting him to try this yet! Finally found compliant coconut milk and added some to my coffee today. Much better than black. Where do you find almond butter? Haven't found that yet. Thanks for your posts! Keep it up, almost one week down, guys!
Earoti
I started June first as well! Today's theconomy best day for me so far. I haven't felt the kill all the things how they described it, which is good! Just been tired and more emotional than usual. Enjoying eating healthy and I really feel accomplished checking off each day of success! At the end of every week I'm going to reward myself! Day 7 I'll get a pedicure. After day 14 I'll probably get a massage! It's nice to have those to look forward to. This is hard, but I'm committed and excited to do this because you only get one body in this life! Verna
Day 10 and I'm an emotional wreck. Following the program with fidelity. I'm emotional like it's PMS time. Is this normal? I just came back from a run and that didn't help. What's your emotional status?
