becca0207
So, I did a Whole60 and three other Whole30's in the last 19 months. I am currently on one and on day 4. I used nuts (usually almonds and cashews) and avocados as my main fat sources for the previous sessions but I cannot stand them any longer. I also hate black olives. ALL of the above listed are making me gag when I eat them this round. I'm pretty sure I'm not getting enough fat and that is what is causing my constant hunger but I'm not positive. Honestly, I am on a very strict budget this whole30 so groceries are limited in comparison to what they have been in the past. Although I can make salad dressings and the such I don't have a ton of money to spend on salad greens in general. A lot of my vegetables are frozen so I'm not sure how I could add fats to them. I have been having some BM issues since starting this one and on all of my other ones but from reading in the forum I'm thinking its from the excessive nuts I've been eating. I am just looking for some help with how to no longer be this hungry. I did not EVER experience this on my other whole30's. In the last year (and for my last two whole30's) I changed jobs and am now a barista at a busy coffee shop so it's genuinely a very active job. I counteracted this with a 4th smaller meal of mostly protein and fat the last two rounds on days I worked and it seemed to help tremendously. Now, it is no longer working. I also don't have an appetite which isn't helping the situation. I just have a lot of hunger pains and no desire to eat and pure disgust when I do eat any of the above listed items. HELP. Thanks in advance!
Moderators ShannonM816 Posted June 5, 2016 Moderators Share Posted June 5, 2016 Salad dressings aren't just for salads. If you have one you like, use it on cooked vegetables. Or on meats. I recently overcooked a steak and it was dry, I had some Tessemae's ranch dressing I poured over it, and while it still wasn't amazingly good, it was greatly improved. Obviously, you don't have to but Tessemae's, make your own, I just had that on hand. If you just can't wrap your head around salad dressings on non-salad stuff, try pesto or chimichurri or look for infused olive oils, or heat up some plain olive oil in a skillet, add some finely chopped garlic, cook until the garlic is starting to brown, and pour that over your vegetables or meat. What about mayo? Other varieties of olives? Try castelvetrano olives if you can find them -- I don't particularly like most olives but can eat those straight from the jar. TryingOver
Homemade mayo, olive oil, sesame oil, infused oils (you can easily make your own for less than you would buy them for by putting some herbs or spices in olive oil and letting it infuse), or ghee (again, make your own to save money) can all be added to vegetables or meat for added fat. Pesto would be good, but you'd likely have to make your own as most pesto contains cheese. Tonight I made a stir-fry and drizzled sesame oil over the vegetables to add an "Asian" flavor and it was delicious. If you have enough money for a splurge, some high quality extra virgin olive oil for drizzling over vegetables can have a nice flavor.
