My First Whole 30: Starting June 13

Hello!

I have always considered myself a relatively healthy person who can eat anything she wants without gaining weight or suffering from any digestive issues. Now that I'm approaching 40, things are changing. Even though I'm a pretty active person (I run, cycle, and practice yoga) and haven't changed my eating habits, my clothes are getting tighter. My body shape is changing in ways I'm not a fan of. So, it's time to start taking better care of my insides.

It's also time to improve my relationship with food. I have some bad night time snacking habits that need to go.

Enter the Whole 30!

As a Wisconsin girl, I'm most nervous about giving up dairy. And beer. But, I'm willing to give it a go. It's only 30 days. I can do anything for 30 days, right? Right?!

I sooooo wish I had been more body aware at forty Katie! I'm now 50 and wish I had spent the last ten years eating better and staying fit. I was exactly the same. Could pretty much eat what I liked and maintain a healthy weight. But.... Da da da dahhhhhh.... We do get older and our bodies start to age and fall down and get a bit creaky and in the blink of an eye I'm feeling 27 in my brain but my body is definitely feeling 50! How the heck did that happen?! So I applaud you your self awareness you will reap the benefits in a decade's time!

Hi KT,

Encouraging "moo"s to you from another Dairy-stater! :)

Of course, during these 30 days, our moos are dairy-free, right?

I am on Day 10 today. and feeling great.

Yesterday I had a lunch date with my husband who had pizza, and I can honestly say that there were absolutely no feelings of temptation from that cheese.

I look at those foods like old boyfriends who I have dumped for a while.

I'll decide next month whether or not I want to go out with them again.

So far, this kind of thinking is helping me a lot.

Best wishes to you.

Thanks for all the words of encouragement! Day 1 has been good so far. Days 2 and 3 will be a true test because I will be at a conference for work and faced with banquet hall food.

Hey KT good luck with that food!! Are you going to take some of your own? I'm on day 5 and for the most part feeling great with the occasional moments of tiredness. Hitting the sack with a thud at the end of the night! The whole30 daily has been great for me at the end and beginning of each day. Very motivating and inspiring. I've also been doing a lot of food prep (broths, soups, pre roasting potatoes pumpkin sweet potatoes ) and then freezing in bags to use throughout the week(s). I'm terrible at leaving things to the last minute then getting tired and grumpy and hungry and stressed; I'm determined to learn about changing more than just WHAT I eat on this programme. Consequently I spent most of the past week end cooking but I figure that'll get easier and also it felt really good by the end of it. All that healthy food! I'm also making myself pick up foods I don't normally (often) eat; eggplants, fennel, Brussel sprouts etc as I'm also notorious for putting up with a very small and therefore boring range of food. I really need to stay interested and invested in this! Phew. It's exciting but challenging isnt it!! Hope everyone else is doing well!!!!
