First Day/First Time

Hello All!

Today marks my first day going into the Whole 30 as a first timer. I've done some clean eating in the past and noticed a good change in my body and mind. I’m hoping to go back to that as I’ve really fallen off the bandwagon.

I’m a bit nervous of course as it’s cutting down my habits of filler foods. So when it says you can only have three meals a day I did panic a bit. Would anyone know if snacks such as veggies or a bit of nuts (like walnuts) would be okay in between meals?

Also, I’ve never actually cooked my own sweet potatoes before. Does anyone have any recommendations? :)

Thank you for reading and for creating such a program. Really looking forward to a healthy start!

If you're hungry between meals while you get your portioning figured out, it's definitely okay to eat a mini meal... make this protein and fat or fat and veggies or ideally all three. 'snacking' on fruit and nuts is discouraged and nuts anyway are recommended to be limited to a closed handful every other day at most.

Your meals are meant to last you between 4-5 hours, so take another good look at the template below and make all three of your meals match, being sure it include the added fat (don't count your cooking fat).

As far as sweet potato, there are many ways to cook them but roasting is easiest. Either whole or cubed. If whole, stab a washed sweet potato with a fork a few times, put it on a parchment lined baking sheet and bake in the oven at around 400 until you can fork it all the way through. Don't skip that parchment step because the juices that run out will carmalize and it's a MESS if you don't line your sheet.

To cube them, chop them up into uniform pieces, coat in cooking oil and preferred spices and roast in the oven until the edges start to brown.

General cooking tips like these can be found by using Google as Whole30 doesn't have specific cooking techniques, we're only concerned with WHAT you're cooking, not how you do it. :)

Good luck!

Today is day one for me!

I made a promise that I wouldn't turn 30 overweight! I know that isn't exactly what the program is about, but while I have been doing things I would have never dreamed possible, and achieving all kinds of personal bests in the gym, I realized that I have hit a wall with progress. After doing some reading, I came to terms with the fact that it does matter what I eat at the end of the day, and not just a calorie count!

I have been in denial of that because... well, junk food is yummy! Moderation with junk food=denial and insufficient energy for my fitness goals!

I have my first triathlon on August 7th, and I need to be at my best if I want to finish stronger than when I started!

This is going to rock your world! The things you think are delicious now, you won't think are so delicious down the road! Don't get me wrong, I think I could still faceplant in a cake right now and be pleased, but my stomach turned at the idea of some of the junk foods I used to eat religiously.

My first day and my first whole 30 too!! I too have done clean eating and paleo consistently for a while and then a little inconsistently.  A complete reset would be good for me I think.  :)

LOL, confession time... I uh, well... Today is a new day... and also is back to day one for me. My brother handed me a undisclosed item of fancy... and lets just say, my sugar dragon ate it. I made a conscious choice, so no one is to blame, other than myself. Really curious now what food freedom tastes like! I have been unaware of just how easily I make those choices without second thought! No wonder I have been fighting a plateau!
