Bam! Let's do this again. Round 2 here I am!

So after a completely successful 34 day Whole30, followed by a two week hiatus, vacation and then feeling like crap because of all the not-so-great stuff in my system, it's time for Round 2.  Stocked up on groceries, got my goals lined up and started today.

One of the things I was okay with doing, but not great about was hitting the gym.  That's part of the goal this time...to work out every single day.  It doesn't have to be long, but it has to happen. I also signed up for a 2 month challenge at the gym, which ends July 31st.  The timing of everything coming together couldn't be better and hey, I might win the $400 cash prize.

My husband is again going to do this most of the time, but will have an occasional beer, martini or lunch with co-workers.  He's gotten really good about reading labels and suggested that anything we don't need/won't eat in the pantry be donated.   He loves the way he feels and just got new jeans in a smaller size.  He doesn't have the food cravings like before (fries, nachos, etc.) and he's loving that, too.

Super fired up to be back and will gladly partner up with anybody who wants an accountability partner.

Day 1 and it feels good.  Felt amazing 2 weeks ago to see people on vacation (hubby's company meeting) in San Diego who hadn't seen me since September.  I actually weighed less then, but this trip so many people commented on how great I looked.  The sense of being healthy and confident was pretty high.  It's so good when you treat your body right.  Your emotions tend to not want to be left behind.

So here's how today went down:

Breakfast: hamburger with spaghetti sauce over sautéed mushrooms and topped with black olives. (seriously, this has to be one of my favorite breakfast foods ever!)

Lunch:  cucumber slices with vinegar, fajita chicken with peppers, onions and guac.

Dinner:  chicken and chorizo, onions, guac and camping potatoes.

AND I hit the gym.  Day 1 of that good habit, too.  :D

Day 2 and hit my goals.  Bonus was having some great conversations here with some amazing people.  This community is so encouraging and inspiring.  Thank you to all of you who post, even if it's tough stuff.  We all learn so much.  On to how the day went down:

Breakfast: 2 compliant hot dogs, coffee with coconut oil (missed the veggie here due to waking 25 minutes before needing to leave the house - will plan better next time).

Lunch:  hamburger with spaghetti sauce over sautéed mushrooms, topped with black olives, mixed greens with balsamic dressing.

PWO:  ...because I went to the GYM. Yay!  canned tuna with creole mustard, small potato.

Dinner:  grilled hamburger with onions and mustard, mixed greens with cucumber, onion, and balsamic/EVOO dressing.

Day 3 is done already.  Well that's dingdang awesome!  It's also Day 3 of going to the gym.  Okay, legs are killing from kettlebell and quad workouts, but it's a good pain and helps ensure a good night's sleep.  That pain is weakness leaving my body.  Here's how the rest of how the day went down:

Breakfast:  onion, spinach, triple mushroom egg scramble topped with Franks, coffee with coconut oil. (first time actually having eggs for breakfast in 3 weeks)

Lunch:  chicken and apple sausage, cucumber slices and black olives.

PWO/Dinner:  a hamburger with onions and mustard, camping potatoes, roasted Brussels sprouts (they were super yummy!)

Keep up the great job everybody!

Done 4 is won and done.  Slept like a rock last night and woke up feeling terrific.  Amazing what having alcohol out of your system does for sleep.  Here's how today went down:

Breakfast:  a hamburger with onions and mustard, roasted Brussels sprouts and coffee with coconut oil.

Lunch/PWO:  compliant hot dog, small potato. (should have had a veggie in here, but got busy with stuff and distracted myself)

Dinner:  hubby and I cooked together and it was fabulous.  Hot curry mussels, Cajun shrimp and sautéed Brussels sprouts.

Oh yeah, hit the gym, too.

Days 5 and 6 are won and done!  Hit the gym both days and feel like that's such a win.  Everything feels just....better.  It's been quite hot here (hitting 100 degrees), which doesn't make me feel like eating, but the results don't lie so pushing through and staying on track.  Here's how the two days went down:

Day 5

Breakfast:  pork carnita meat from the slow cooker, cucumber slices, coffee with coconut oil.

Lunch:  hamburger with spaghetti sauce over sautéed mushrooms topped with black olives, cucumber slices.

PWO:  compliant hot dog and canned pumpkin (this was a first and.... not too bad).

Dinner:  chicken and chorizo, guacamole, mixed greens.

Day 6:

Breakfast:  hamburger with spaghetti sauce over sautéed mushrooms, coffee with coconut oil.

Lunch:  chicken and chorizo, peppers and onions, guacamole, sliced cucumbers.

PWO/Dinner:  baked tilapia, small potato, mixed greens with cucumber, onions, balsamic/EVOO dressing.

It's great having options in the fridge, although I find myself gravitating to the hamburger with spaghetti sauce.  Maybe it's because it tastes like what my mom made when we were kids and it hits the emotional happiness of eating, too.  It also makes me NOT miss pizza, since I know exactly what I made it with.

Day 7 is won and done.  Slept super well and woke up without the alarm.  Clean eating is also helping me organize and simplify other parts of my life...closets and cupboard specifically.  Feels great.  Day 7 at the gym, too....kettlebells and stairmaster....going to feel that tomorrow.  :D Here's how the rest of the day went down:

Breakfast:  mushroom, onion, spinach egg scramble, coffee with coconut oil.

Lunch:  chicken and chorizo, red peppers and onions, guacamole, mixed greens with mushrooms, onions, balsamic/EVOO dressing.

PWO:  baked tilapia, small potato.

Dinner:  a hamburger with onions and mustard, mixed greens.

So....I'm missing my mom today.  It's been almost 5 months since she passed away...after having diabetes and then 4 years of dialysis.  I wish I could share this journey with her, tell her I'm working hard to be healthy and how well it's going.  She would be so happy.

This forum and this community is such a supportive group effort.  When we share of ourselves, we get even more in return.  I am so grateful for the positive feedback, constructive ideas and everything in between.

Thank you Whole30 and everyone succeeding, struggling and working to live a healthier you.  We've got this.

Thanks for sharing your journey!  Sorry to hear you're missing your mom.  Nice to know she'd be happy with what you're doing.

I'm a few days behind you on this W30.  I started July 5.  I'm with you on simplifying and organizing other parts of my life along with this.  I'm extremely busy and it's so easy to just let stuff slide and pile up.  I told myself that I'll likely be socializing/going out a little less this month so I'm going to spend extra time and energy on making my day-to-day stuff better.  I'm also doing daily workouts like you as well.  Hot yoga and CrossFit which are such a great combo for me.

Happy Friday!  Looking forward to reading about your journey and food ideas! :)

Day 8 is won and done.  It was a bit rough emotionally, but knowing when to cry and being totally okay with that.... works for me.  Having great support, both here and in real life was super helpful.

My body wasn't as sore as anticipated after yesterday's grueling workout which just further incentivizes me to push harder.  Here's how the rest of the day went down:

Breakfast:  onion, mushroom, egg scramble with Frank's, coffee with coconut oil.

Lunch:  chicken and chorizo, red peppers and onions, guacamole, mixed greens with balsamic/EVOO dressing.

PWO/Dinner:  a hamburger with mustard and onions, small potato, mixed greens with Dijon mustard/balsamic/EVOO dressing.

Frank's Red Hot is THE BOMB! Best hot sauce I've ever had. Glad to see things are going well for you.

Totally agree!  I'm not big on eggs, but Frank's transforms them into something I'll definitely eat.

Thank you for your encouragement!

Day 9 is won and done.  Sleep was pretty elusive last night and even though I was tired all day and then spent the afternoon shopping/running errands, still made it to the gym....for the 9th day in a row.  However, have to say I wasn't terribly disappointed when after just finishing lifting, my in-laws needed me to run over and jumpstart their car.  I'll do a longer/better workout tomorrow.  We also had a morsel out after shopping.  It's amazing what a server will help you with food-wise if you just ask.  So here's how the day went down:

Breakfast:  compliant hot dog with mustard, lots of celery, coffee with coconut oil.

Lunch:  hamburger with spaghetti sauce over mushrooms topped with black olives.

Dinner:  this is where it got fun.  Ordered a Cobb salad with grilled shrimp, asking that the bacon and cheese be on the side (hubby ate them).  Dressings were standard restaurant ones so I asked for just olive oil.  Voila'!  A totally compliant salad.

PWO:  small sweet potato, turkey slices.

Woohoo!  33% of the way thru the second Whole30 and I'm still learning so much.

Day 10 is won and done.  Made up last night for the previous night's lack of sleep and it sure felt good.  None of that 2:30 a.m. solving the world's problems or rethinking how many things to organize...

Sundays seem a bit wonky for scheduling meals.  It's the one morning we're a bit loungier.  Have to wait an hour after taking thyroid rx before eating breakfast, we leave for worship at 2:00, then try to be at the gym 5ish.  Wasn't in the mood to eat breakfast and then everything except leaving at 2:00 got pushed back today and lunch was rushed.  Overall it worked out and gives me some things to improve.  Here's how the day went down.

Breakfast:  hamburger with spaghetti sauce over sautéed spinach and mushrooms, coffee with coconut oil.

Lunch:  compliant hot dog, cucumber slices, coffee with coconut oil.

PWO/Dinner:  fried sweet potato, a hamburger with onions and mustard, mixed greens with onions, cucumber and Dijon mustard/balsamic/EVOO dressing.

Day 11 is won and done.  So many things fell into place today.  My workout was solid, food choices were super satisfying and today ends in victory.  Our new Fitbits got here today, 2 people at the gym noticed that I walk more confidently and that I've toned/lost weight.  Good feelings all around.  Here's how the day went down:

Breakfast:  chicken and spinach sausage, cucumber slices, coffee with coconut oil.

Lunch:  ground turkey and chorizo, guacamole, cucumber slices.

PWO/Dinner:  sautéed sweet potato with onions and ground turkey, mixed greens with cucumber and Dijon/balsamic/EVOO dressing.

I have flounder marinating overnight for Baja tacos tomorrow for dinner....to be served with a cabbage slaw (vinegar, olive oil, spices) and topped with avocado cilantro dressing.  Super stoked about it.  :D

Day 12 is won and done.  It was a fairly uneventful day and that's quite okay.  Day 12 at the gym and feeling stronger, leaner and cleaner every day.  It also seemed like I was waiting all day to try this terrific new Baja taco recipe...which was scrumptious!  Here's how the day went down:

Breakfast: hamburger with spaghetti sauce over sautéed mushrooms, coffee with coconut oil.

Lunch:  turkey and chorizo, guacamole, cabbage slaw.

PWO/Dinner:  YUM!  flounder Baja tacos with cabbage slaw, topped with avocado cilantro dressing.  I combined/adapted 3 paleo recipes to come up with a super fun and compliant dinner.  Will definitely be making the dressing again.

Day 13 is won and done.  Volunteer work this morning, followed by some errands and more cleaning/organizing.  Such a good feeling to simplify and get rid of stuff.  Had a good workout and overall a great day.  Got the new Fitbit connected and looking forward to more accurate readings of sleep and heart rate while working out.  Here's how the day went down:

Breakfast:  chicken and spinach sausage, cucumber slices, coffee with coconut oil.

Lunch:  shredded pork, guacamole, mixed greens with balsamic/EVOO dressing.

PWO/Dinner:  sautéed sweet potato, a hamburger with mustard and onions, mixed greens with balsamic/EVOO dressing.

Day 14 is won and done.  Hard to believe it's almost the halfway point of my second Whole30.  This feels so good.  The workout was short because I had a boatload of errands to do, which meant I didn't feel the need to add a starchy vegetable to dinner.

We'll be at a 3 day conference (coming home each evening) starting tomorrow.  We'll be bringing our own lunches and just the like rest of the time, preparation is key.  The veggies are cut, the chicken baked, and fabulous salads are set for lunches.  Here's how the rest of the day went down:

Breakfast:  a hamburger with mustard and onions, cucumber slices, coffee with coconut oil.

Lunch:  shredded pork from the crock pot, mixed greens with cucumbers, balsamic/EVOO dressing.

PWO/Dinner:  baked chicken, mixed greens with balsamic/EVOO dressing.

Been experimenting with spices in the dressing.  A Texas company makes a spice called Chicken SH*T and it has no sugar or chemicals.  It's pretty dang good in the salad dressing.  Yes, it's for seasoning chicken, but pretty sure there aren't rules for whatever else to use it for.  :P

Day 15 is won and done.  Spent the day at a conference, got home just before 7:00 and quickly changed clothes for the gym.  It was a short workout with mostly weights, but it's the 15th day in a row of going to the gym and despite being dang tired, I wasn't going to skip it.  Dinner was something quick and easy since we ate around 8:00 p.m.  The late eating thing hasn't happened on W30 so it's another reminder and NSV of how much healthier our eating patterns have become. Here's how the day went down:

Breakfast:  compliant hot dog with mustard and onions, cucumber slices, coffee with coconut oil.

Lunch:  mixed greens with cucumber, sweet red peppers, black olives, onions, chicken and balsamic/EVOO dressing.

PWO/Dinner:  sautéed potato, a hamburger with mustard and onions, cabbage slaw.

Day 16 is won and done.  It's always surprising to me how sitting through a conference all day is more tiring that actually working/moving around/doing something.  Being tired is not keeping me from going to the gym every day and today was no exception.

A word about dinner.  We had the in-laws with us and went to a fish grill for dinner.  We are Midwesterners.  Friday night fish fry in the Midwest is a THING.  Everyone has a favorite place, fried fish is especially good if served by a place that also happens to be a microbrewery because they use their own beer in the batter and a good crisp, cold beer rounds out the meal.  You get the idea.  We went to a fish grill for dinner!  My husband and his parents had fish and chips.  The fried nectar of the gods.  With coleslaw.  And a wheat beer.  And tartar sauce. Man, I wanted a bite, no...a plate full of that golden deliciousness!  However, I CHOSE Mahi Mahi because it is exactly that.  MY choice. I'm not on Day 16 for nothing.  Past the halfway point so there's no restart option if I have a say.

"Obstacles cannot crush me.  Every obstacle yields to stern resolve.  He who is fixed to a star does not change his mind."  ~Leonardo Da Vinci

Here's how the day went down:

Breakfast:  baked chicken, cucumber slices, coffee with coconut oil.

Lunch:  mixed greens with cucumber, sweet red peppers, black olives, onions, chicken and balsamic/EVOO dressing.

Dinner:  blackened Mahi Mahi, steamed veggies dipped in olive oil, club soda with lime.
