lgraby
Hi guys! Just started my whole30 and still figuring things out, so silly question for you. Today my pre-lunch errands turned into all afternoon errands so by the time I went to the gym (I did 20 minutes cardio, 1 hour weight training) I had only had an apple and some almonds as my second meal, (but felt completely fine). Then, while I had a hearty dinner, I was really, really hungry by the time I was ready for bed so I had a VERY tiny veg/protein 4th "meal". I understand that this is not recommended normally and I'll have to increase my dinner size a bit maybe, but in the future if it happens again is it better to just try to sleep it off? Thanks in advance!
Karen_Suep
You may also incorporate a post WO meal of a lean protein and starchy veg
Moderators ShannonM816 Posted July 3, 2016 Moderators Share Posted July 3, 2016 If you're hungry, definitely eat. It sounds like you didn't really have lunch, pre-WO, or post-WO, just the almonds and an apple, so it's not at all surprising that you would be hungry later. It's probably not that you need to increase the size of your dinner so much (or maybe you do, I don't know since you don't say what you had or how much), it's probably more that you missed a full meal, plus didn't have your post-WO to help your body recover. In the future, even if you think your errands won't take long, it might be worth keeping something like some jerky or an Epic bar (not all varieties are compliant, read the labels) or even a can or pouch of tuna or salmon with you so that you can eat something before you get home if you need to. lgraby
Thanks very much for the suggestions. I'll definitely keep them in mind and have to play a bit with meal timing as well I imagine. I also want to look into these Epic bars I keep hearing about and see if we can get them in Spain. Thanks again
Moderators SugarcubeOD Posted July 4, 2016 Moderators Share Posted July 4, 2016 Epic bars are for emergencies (stuck on a plane, blizzard etc...) not for relying on for regular eating.
PhysicsHippie
I keep a small serving of nuts/jerky in my purse for emergencies. It helps feed off the hangry-beast that comes out if I don't eat at my usual times haha. I really want to incorporate some compliant kale chips into that emergency stash since I realize that I'll be in serious lack of a veggie if too many emergencies pop up! I've been keeping an eye out for yummy recipes
boberrymom
I myself have to eat 4 meals easily a day. I eat every 4 hours at least but the size of meal is dependant on how hungry I really am. I do this because i do not eat after 9 pm (my own rule) so my last meal is a little later but i also don't get off the road from work until close to 8 pm. When I have errands in town (i am 1.5 hours away) i take some items to have like mini cucumbers, handful of almonds/cashews, nak'd bars are good too but there are only i think 2 compliant ones (i can't get epic bars here), some fruit or a boiled egg. Depends on how much time I have to get stuff together before I go. I do agree though that a post workout snack/meal also may help. Hope you can find something that works.
