lunawishs
Hello, I completed my first whole 30 a couple days ago and I began to reintroduce legumes today. So far, I feel kind of sluggish and sleepy after my meals but no GI issues yet. I am planning to introduce a teaspoon of potato starch as a resistance starch and wondering what food group it would belong. Can I have it on a gluten free grain (even though it's not a grain) day or can I take it every day? Thanks in advance.
jmcbn
Potato starch is not an off limit food unless you've been doing th AIP Whole30?

Potatoes -- and therefore potato starch, assuming you're not buying some product with other stuff added -- are allowed on Whole30. If you dropped them because you felt you had issues with them and want to check that out, pick a day and do a potato reintro. If you are just going by the old guidelines which didn't allow potatoes, and don't have reason to believe you have issues with them, I'd just go ahead and have it when you want it. Have you tried having actual potatoes, rather than a potato starch product? I believe that cooking and cooling them increases their resistant starch content. Here's the article about the change of rules on potatoes. Typing slow today, jmcbn beat me to it.
lunawishs
Wow, thank you so much for the quick replies. Somehow, I searched the forum and thought potato starch was non-compliant. It must have been an old post. I've been eating potatoes during my whole 30 and I was feeling ok. I'm glad to know that I can add it as a resistance starch any time. Thanks again! jmcbn
Cooled boiled potatoes in some mayo with chopped onions/scallions (and some chopped compliant bacon) is a much more enjoyable way to get your resistant starch in!!
