Day 17: Sugar Dragon

Recommended Posts

I'm on day 17 and feeling great. I have more energy, am in a better mood, and am much less bloated. My biggest issue in the past has been eating sugar, and I have had cravings throughout the last 16 days - but today they have gotten significantly worse. Is this  normal? Where is the tiger blood???

We could give you better feedback with a few more details -- could you list a day or two of typical meals, including approximate portion sizes as they relate to the meal template, along with approximate water intake and activity level?

Some things to consider:

  • Are you sure you're eating enough? Cravings occur less and are definitely easier not to give in to when you're eating plenty of food at meals, and it's not unusual for people to underestimate how much they should be eating, especially if they come from a background of restrictive, calorie counting type diets.
  • Are you having lots of fruit, more than the two servings a day that's recommended? Or are you having fruit on its own as a snack? Or having fruit when you do have cravings for sweets? Those things can definitely keep the cravings going -- be sure you're having fruit as part of a meal full of protein, fat, and vegetables, and if you're having cravings that you can't get rid of and you must eat something, go for some type of fat instead of something sweet, like a handful of olives or some avocado or even a spoonful of coconut oil.
  • If you're female, are you coming up to that time of the month? It's normal to crave more food in general, and more carbs/sweet stuff in particular in the week or so leading up to your period. If it might be this, increase the size of your meals, and include some extra starchy vegetables for a few days.
