Bennerob
So, it's day 12 and I am losing the motivation to keep this up. I'm tired of spending the day in the kitchen cooking and cleaning and I don't see any results yet -- still feeling kind of brain foggy and lethargic. Of course, this is coming the day after I dropped my kids off at camp for two weeks and my husband and I are headed to San Diego for five days later this week. Our romantic getaway might not be so romantic if we have to spend so much time thinking about what we can and can't have three meals a day for five days. Perhaps I want to throw the towel in because I'm not optimistic we'll get past the five days in compliance. That luxurious dinner with red wine and a decadent dessert is calling. Just the ability to order off a menu in a "healthy" manner is tempting -- can't imagine asking a waiter at every single meal a series of questions designed to ensure I'm compliant. Words of wisdom? Tips for surviving? Encouraging words to get through when results aren't so apparent?
Staggolee41
Hi there! Sorry to hear the motivation well is running dry. Just a few thoughts/suggestions... Write some NSVs you've had on your bathroom mirror in dry erase marker (if your husband doesn't mind). Dry erase wipes off of mirrors well enough, and it'll be a regular reminder of your victories, even if they are small. Maybe post in Troubleshooting about your continued fogginess and lethargy? Make sure to post all of the details of your meals - what, how much, how the size of the protein relates to the size/thickness of your palm, etc. For your meals on your trip - call the restaurants before you leave to ask the awkward questions (or email their corporate offices, if it's a chain) so that you're not feeling incredibly awkward in what *should* be a romantic moment for your husband and you. For being sick of spending all your time in the kitchen - believe me, I feel you. I got sick of that right at the beginning. For me, the key was to figure out some simple recipes that didn't require a ton of forethought or prep, and to pepper those through my plan. I also checked myself and asked what was worth the time to make and what was worth the money to just buy at the store (mayo didn't make the cut for "make at home"). Plan some romantic moments that don't involve food. If you guys like surprises, plan to surprise each other. If not, look for things to do that will make the most of the moment. Part of this plan is removing our emotional attachment to food, and while a decadent dinner can be very enjoyable, it shouldn't *have* to be present for you to have a good (or romantic) time. Finally, remember that you made a choice, and remind yourself of why you made that choice. There must have been a good reason if you made the decision and have stuck with it past a few days. Best of luck to you! You *can* do this, and you *are* worth it!
MeadowLily
Posted 22 October 2015 - 11:39 PM Unless you travel every month, I would plan to complete a Whole30 at some other time when I was in my normal routine the whole time. http://forum.whole30.com/topic/31953-4-day-weekend-in-big-bear-how-to-cope/ Posted 17 March 2014 - 03:22 PM If I were you, I would just eat according to the meal template, mostly Whole30-compliant between now and your vacation and fully enjoy yourself in Hawaii. Eat everything you come across during your trip that is new and interesting and even old favorites if they seem worth it. Then commit to a Whole30 after you are back. http://forum.whole30.com/topic/17543-restart-limited-time-frame/
Bennerob
Thanks for the advice, Staggolee41. Sometimes it helps to just take a breath and re-center -- and then make a plan. If I don't even attempt to be Whole30 compliant over the next five days, then I've truly failed. If I go into believing I can do it, I've got a better shot. I've checked out some restaurants and am reading through the travel forum. It's only a few days . . . Ah, MeadowLily, if only there were a time better than any other I chose the month of July because my kids would be away for two weeks, and I wouldn't be tempted to eat my daughter's daily baked goodies or to order quick and easy food at the end of a day when faced with feeding a family of five. Thought this was the perfect time to focus on me. I'm going to go into the trip assuming I can be Whole30 compliant and see how it goes. Today, I don't feel the pull of wine or chocolate, so maybe things are turning. Only time will tell . . . Thanks for your thoughts. Robin
Staggolee41
Robin, Best of luck with sticking with it. I hope you guys have a great time! If you feel like you're sacrificing once-in-a-lifetime experiences... DON'T! You can always find another time to do Whole30 and get your kids on board. I'm so impressed that you're really going to make the effort. Diana

Robin Robin, There are some really great restaurants in San Diego that make staying compliant pretty easy! Where in San Diego are you staying? Some of my favorites are Tender Greens, Urban Plates, True Food Kitchen, and Sausage & Meat. If you want more suggestions or have a particular type of cuisine that you're looking for, feel free to reply or direct message me. I also know of a few great date restaurants if you're looking for a date night. I'm happy give suggestions if needed. Good luck! Jen
Bennerob
Jen, We're spending first three days in Carlsbad for a conference. I've taken a look at the hotel's menus, so think I can manager there. We're then headed to San Diego Friday and Saturday night, staying in the Gaslamp District. Any suggestions on restaurants would be great! I'll take a look at the ones you've mentioned, but if you want to recommend a great date night restaurant for Friday, that would be great. We're headed to the Padres v. Giants Saturday night . . . Thanks! Robin
