MrsZimm13
I maybe a little nuts, but what has been the hardest for me the past 13 days is not weighing myself. Pre W30, I weighed everyday, maybe twice. I believe it's best NOT to weigh, but the scale calls to me more than food does. NSV's My face looks thinner I have more energy My knuckle is hurting less Tummy looks slimmer Pants that were too tight prior to W30 now fit. I could wear them to a meeting if needed. No cravings- none. Not one. Started Whole 30 today. 7/13/16 I am doing this to see if my inflammation issues improve. I would like to sleep better without waking up early in the morning. I have felt fine today despite waking up at 4 am. I did get a bit dizzy/lightheaded when I stood up at 9:40pm, but it passed quickly. I was a bit hungry throughout the day. I did not have protein at lunch, only a salad made of spinach, red onion, pecans, tomatoes, and bacon. Breakfast was scrambled eggs with roasted tomatoes- delicious! Dinner- chicken curry with Veggies and cauliflower rice. 7/14 woke at 6:15am. Had to pee. Maybe I need to stop any liquids at 8 pm so that I don't feel the urge to go in the night or early morning. Water & Black coffee I feel good. No headache or complaints. The knuckle on my right hand middle finger is continuing to be stiff and painful during the night and in the morning. 45 on treadmill. I feel like I have more energy today than in prior days. Breakfast- 2 eggs, 1/2 avocado, 1 bell pepper, garlic, tomatoes and squash sautéed in olive oil. Lunch- pork patty, whole tomato, cauliflower rice, left over chicken curry. **Challenge- eating with out distractions! I realize I eat every meal while working or online and sitting on the couch Dinner- apple and bacon stuffed pork chop- crazy good. Cook 10 min less next time. Sweet potato, and tomato salad with olives. 6:33pm, just finished dinner and I'm sleepy. When I stand from sitting, I'm lightheaded. 7/15 I woke up to pee... Listened to Swami J and got more sleep. No coffee today. No headache. Ate 2 eggs, left over curry with veggies- it was delicious! Yoga- she taught a Bikrimesque class and it was hard! We sweated and I was worked out really good! 7/16 slept poorly last night-took a nap. Went to Marn's birthday party. Drove to Perry on the way to family reunion. Staying at Hampton Inn. Breakfast- eggs, onion, meatloaf Lunch- almonds with an apple Dinner- turkey burger, sautéed squash with onions and bacon fat, spinach salad with 1/2 avocado Lots of water NSV- Norm said my face looks slimmer. My stomach feels/looks slimmer 7/17- last night I dreamed of food. I remember struggling to find something to eat with no sugar. When I decided on a food, I then found, after I ate it, that the food has sugar. Thankfully, that was just a dream. family reunion. Going to make it through today, I packed egg salad, grapefruit, avocado, apple Breakfast- 1/2 turkey burger 2 oz, yellow squash, tomatoes, egg salad, water. I'm full and feel good. Lunch- egg salad, lettuce, tomato and 1 oz chicken. NSV** made it through the day, where there was only fresh veggies and my eggs salad that I could eat. I drank a lot of water, munched on carrot sticks and ate what I could. I did it! Munched on pistachios on the way home. Dinner-9:30pm salmon, broccoli and sweet potato with. Spinach salad with avocado oil and balsamic. NSV**. Norm and i both feel that my stomach looks smaller. 7/18- day 6. I plan on resigning from WP today. This should not affect what I eat. Slept very good last night. I feel rested and energized. I am not hungry. Weird. I realize I have more energy and feel good. Prior to W30 I thought I was eating low carb and low/no sugar, but as I look at labels, I find sugar in almost everything. Breakfast- none Lunch- spinach salad with tuna, avocado oil, balsamic, oils, tomatoes, onion Dinner- buffalo turkey, eggs, veggies and franks red hot sauce Lots of water today. Cleaned house in preparation for dad to arrive tomorrow. 7/19 - day 7 Have to pick dad up early in the morning. My knuckle seems to be getting a little better. I had some discomfort this morning, but not as bad as it was. I feel a little hungry today, maybe that's because I didn't eat three meals yesterday. I'd really like to know if I am losing weight or not. I'm not eating that differently than before. I'm going to prep boston butt for dinner tomorrow night. Dinner tonight I'm going to make stuffed pork chops, salad and broccoli. 7/20- day 8 Pants that were too tight prior to W30 now fit. I could wear them to a meeting if needed. MrsZimm13
7/26 day 14 It's tomato season in the south-- we are eating a bunch of tomatoes each day. Fresh peppers, onions and tomatoes- yum yum. I'm so glad we garden. Yoga NSV at Yoga- Diana eyed me up and down and said, "girl, you're losing weight- look at you!" That made me feel good. I tried to get her to guess how much I've lost (since I can't hop on the scale) but she wouldn't bite. Chiropractor Shopping at Costco B-2 eggs, 2 bacon, spinach, mushrooms, onions, 1 C tomatoes, 1 C blue berries L- chicken and eggplant in tomato- tomatoes, handful of raw cashews. (I realize lunch was light, but I was rushing trying to get out the door) D- turkey buffalo casserole, 2 cups of tomato, pepper, cuke, olive salad
MrsZimm13
7/27 day 15--- Half way to the finish line!! I have business travel coming up next week and the week after, 3 days each week. This is stressing me out. I bought Lara Bars to bring in case of an emergency, but I really don't want to eat them. I think they are going to be super sweet and I, physically, don't do well with sweets. I'm going to go to Kroger and buy some raw nuts & canned tuna-- the kind that is in a can with a pull top. I used that one other time I traveled and it was very handy. I bought a garden salad in the airport and put my tuna on top. B- ham steak 3 eggs, tomatoes, spinach, mushrooms Water aerobics Snack of 1 HB egg with 1 tsp mayo sprinkled with turmeric L-eggplant/tomato stew. Added carrots and peas and a turkey burger, doused with avocado oil (my new favorite ingredient) ***Talked with Kas on the phone and mindlessly ate almonds. I don't know why I did this. I was not hungry. *** D-pork picnic, sweet potatoes, carrots, cabbage Going to the pool to swim, sun and chill. New realization: we can't have coconut water on W30. I didn't know that until I read a moderators reply to a log. Good to know. New favorite cooking appliances: crockpot and pressure cooker . I have been cooking sweet potatoes in the crockpot. It's so much better than heating my house on a 95 degree day! 4 hours on high and they are perfect. Pressure cooker is cooking my ham instead of boiling it or baking. Again, an effort to keep the house cool.
MrsZimm13
7/28 day 16 My knuckle hurt early this morning and woke me. My left thumb, first joint also hurt. Green tea with lemon and turmeric B-3 eggs,2 sausage patties, 2 cups roasted veggies, doused all with avocado oil. Walked the dogs- chatted with Annette and Susan. For many reasons: the constant heat, one hen setting, eating more eggs on W30, and dad visiting for the month, I ran out of our pasture eggs and bought organic eggs at Costco. They are a pale comparison to my girls eggs. They defiantly do not have the flavor of the eggs I raise. L-eggplant/tomato stew. Added carrots and peas and meatloaf, doused with avocado oil (my new best friend). Tomato salad with olives, avocado and dressed with oil and vinegar. D- Shepard's Pie make with lamb, cauliflower/parsnip topping, carrots and peas, big tomato, cuke, pepper, olives, salad I am so glad we get to eat tons of veggies! I love veggies! I love every crunch and all the colors and different flavors. I'm super happy eating this way! I told my husband I will keep on eating this way, probably for life. It's not a diet. It's a way of life. I was 80% there before starting on July 13, but now I'm 100% & committed. I'll have medical confirmation that this is helping my sugar levels, and some other indicators at the end of August when I get blood test results. I'm excited to see how things have changed since April. I don't think I realized how I had slipped off the Paleo rock prior to W30. I let Mary's Gone Crackers and Luke's Crackers, yogurt and cheese into my life and that never should have happened. Also- beer and wine... They make me feel terrible, why do I enjoy drinking them? I think because I feel relaxed when I drink versus when I don't. I gave up coffee on day 2, probably won't go back to it. I read coffee raises cortisol levels, and I know mine are on the high side. Also, I'm sleeping better. So--- see ya, coffee! I don't need you in my life! Oh-- one more thing about giving up my coffee ritual- I have an hour more time in the morning. Since I'm not sipping on my 2 cups of coffee savorying each sip, I have more time and I've been walking the dogs.
MrsZimm13
7/29 day 17 I've been without a work PC all week. Today will be a busy day for me. Walked the dogs Yoga Drove to Best Buy for a power cord Started canning tomatoes tonight. The fun begins. B-Eggs with ham, veggies, avocado oil L-pulled pork, sweet potato, coconut cream, cinnamon D-ham, buffalo turkey, roasted veggies, olives, avocado oil I feel really good physically and emotionally. But, my boss and work are trying my patience.

WholeDave
Mrs Zimm, when I travel for work I take tinned tuna/sardines, some nuts & seeds, an avocado if possible. If it's a short trip I might even take a bag of cleaned celery to crunch on day one. You will certainly notice the change in your knuckles - after 50 odd days W30 my hands actually look normal with hardly any redness.

I bought some sausage sticks from a local German sausage shop. They will travel well and be ok for a day out of refrigeration. I also like cut up raw cauliflower- it travels well in a purse. As do avocados- I need to remember to pack a plastic knife As for the knuckles- thank you for your note. Even when i took a 2 your nap today when I woke up it was hard to bend that finger. I sure hope it goes away on W30.
MrsZimm13
Mrs. Zimm- where did you find ham without sugar? I'd love some! We buy a hog from a local FFA student and have it processed by a local processor. We tell them how we want the whole hog cut, processed, smoked- whatever. I've confirmed with them that there is no sugar or additives. When we pick it up, all of the meat is individually packaged and frozen. And, it's the best ham, sausage, butt, bacon, chops and neck you'll ever eat.
MrsZimm13
NSV today- I just realized I didn't think about weighing myself today. Yay!! This feeling to weigh is usually strongest in the morning and evening or when I am prepping to shower. So glad I didn't have to fight the tug of the scale today. MrsZimm13
I woke up after dreaming that I was at an ice cream shop and had a bowl of ice cream. I ate it, then thought, "oh man, I just messed up. Guess I'll restart tomorrow" Mi so glad I woke up and realized it was just a dream! I don't even eat ice cream!! Why am I dreaming about it? Getting ready to eat breakfast, take the dogs to the lake to play with Macy (a new dog friend) and then to the pool. Going to swim some laps and o some water aerobic type activities versus just laying on a raft and floating. Have to come home and prep and pack for a biz trip. UGH. MrsZimm13
7/31 day 19 B- eggs with peppers and onion, avocado oil, ham steak, sliced tomatoes L-grilled chicken, spinach salad, olives, avocado oil, balsamic V. S-Kalamata olives, handful of cashews D-meatloaf, cauli/parsnip, roasted veggies, sweet potato, avocado oil Interesting realization- my husband and father are eating whatever I prepare. Today they both got hungry before I did. I think it's the extra fat I add to my meals that they do not. At dinner tonight, I doused the bowl with roasted veggies with avocado oil before I served them. That way I was sure they got extra fat. I added more to my veggies too. This was a super busy day. Got up, fixed breakfast for all of us. Packed up and took the dogs to the spillway to play with other dogs. Did a lot of chasing after the dogs. We then went to the pool for 2 hours and then grocery shopped. I found Tessame's dressings at my Kroger. Thought- oh I'll buy one and see why everyone loved this product. Got it home and dropped it on my walkway. There goes $5! I'm so mad at myself for that because I don't like wasting food or money. Made lunch, canned tomatoes 12 quarts, made a triple batch of cauliflower/parsnip mash and froze 3, 32 ounce containers for future use. Made a meatloaf and roasted a tray of veggies. Finished a sales report for my meeting and packed for trip tomorrow and just crawled into bed . So, I've read lots of W30 logs and read of people commenting on their nail growth. I have to say I was quite skeptical that the nails would be affected as they grow from the matrix outward. BUT--- my nails are growing! They are usually stumps and I do not bite them. They split and peel. Especially with washing as many dishes and veggies as I've been doing they would usually be a mess, but they look kind of good at the moment. Rock on W30!! MrsZimm13
Another NSV to report- A skirt I have not been able to wear for 6 or more years fits! I'm wearing it tomorrow to a meeting! That's pretty cool!

jenna125
You are doing so well! Your NSV are really exciting - I'm hoping to have my clothes fit differently soon. Still waiting on that, but I am learning patience through this exercise. So nice to read your posts. Funny how your family members are unknowingly along for the ride on the whole 30. I know my increased energy is affecting the food that is prepared in the house.
MrsZimm13
You are doing so well! Your NSV are really exciting - I'm hoping to have my clothes fit differently soon. Still waiting on that, but I am learning patience through this exercise. So nice to read your posts. Funny how your family members are unknowingly along for the ride on the whole 30. I know my increased energy is affecting the food that is prepared in the house. My husband especially, is very easy going where food is concerned. As long as its Paleo he's good with it. He has not minded at all that I've kicked it up a notch to W30. Dad, who will be 78 next week, L-O-V-E-S his bread. I don't buy him bread, he has to buy that, nor do I put the bread on the dinner table and he doesn't miss it. I've got him eating so many veggies he doesn't need bread. As for the clothes- just keep plugging along each day and it will happen. It's the small things, but I worked with a trainer the first part of this year and I had to take photos each week and measurements. The photos were helpful and still are to see the small changes we don't recognize each day. I had my husband take the photos the other day (first time since starting W30) and the change in my midriff is unbelievable. I've slimmed down so much in that area, it's pretty cool to look back and see what I looked like per W30. I have not read that photos on W30 are off limits, and I'm sure someone will correct me if they are. For me, they help.
Jager07
Great job, MrsZimm! How fun to go shopping in your own closet and to feel terrific putting that dress on! AND you're two thirds of the way through your W30. How awesome is that?
MrsZimm13
8/1 day 20 B-3 eggs, cauliflower/ parsnip mash S sausage stick L- spinach salad w/ chicken, olives (made at home, ate on the plane) S handful of nuts D Guacamole, brisket, 4 jumbo shrimp with clarified butter, salad, sausage stick Traveled to Dallas for work. Met a very nice man on the plane. We had a great conversation about healthy eating. He is following a chris Johnson program and very happy. He says he feels better. We both shared our victories and I even gave him some of my nuts and olives to take wth him because he was rushing to get to a meeting and didn't think there was any food for him to eat at the airport. First eating out experience since W30. I'm on an expense budget, so I had to be mindful of how much $ I was spending. I ordered jumbo shrimp with clarified butter and lemon- amazing! And I wanted a salad but all on the menu had cheese or candied nuts....so I asked the waiter to ask the chef to make me a salad with only veggies- any kind but corn and oil and vinegar on the side. I was presented with a beautiful salad and the waiter was so accommodating, when I asked if they had avocado, he told me no... But then ran up to room service and got me an avocado! Above and beyond! Day 1 on the road went ok. I did wait too long between eating lunch and dinner, but it couldn't be helped. I was working a tradeshow. The bad part is there was tons of food and alcohol, and the good part was I didn't have any that was not allowed. I grabbed a small amt of guacamole and some brisket, both were very good and I did not detect sweetness.
MrsZimm13
Great job, MrsZimm! How fun to go shopping in your own closet and to feel terrific putting that dress on! AND you're two thirds of the way through your W30. How awesome is that? Thank you! Yes, it's pretty cool to put on a nice piece of clothing that I couldn't Recently. And, I've gotten lots of compliments today on the dress and my team mates all have told me I look great. None of them know about W30. I count all that as NSVs, I'm so psyched that I'm in the home stretch, but I'm going to keep on going with it. I'm not stopping at 30.
MrsZimm13
Success! I was around hundreds of people drinking alcohol and offering me drinks- I didn't have any desire to partake. I drank club soda with lime and that was perfect.
MrsZimm13
8/2 day 21 Handful of nuts, 1 cup cherry tomatoes, water. 45 min walk B- 2 eggs, tiny amount of chorizo, 1 avocado, spinach salad with red onion, peppers and tomato Yoga Handful of nuts post yoga L- chicken fajita, guacamole, grilled veggies S-guacamole, nuts D-baked potato with clarified butter, spinach salad with tenderloin, oil and vinegar dressing, bacon crumbles Day 2 of biz travel. I learned valuable info today. 1. When ordering breakfast out, order poached eggs as you can count them. I ordered an omelet, confirmed it was just egg, and asked for 4 eggs. When it was presented, it was a very small omelette, I'm guessing 2 eggs. 2. I am stronger than I thought when it comes to food and alcohol. I was around a lot of food and alcohol which was all off limits. I didn't even think about eating any of it. I drank water and didn't even get hungry for the snacks I packed. I ate the snacks when I got back to my room because I was overdue to eat and the dinner reservation is in 2 hours. 3. At dinner I had to repeatedly turn down bread...oh and the smell of the warm bread was inviting, but I didn't give in. Turned down Mac and cheese, wine and cocktails. I feel accomplished that I was strong and determined not to eat that food or drink. I can't wait to get home to my own food, my home, husband and dogs. Not necessarily in that order, but close.
