Could kill for chocolate/ice cream/yoghurt - help please!

Recommended Posts

My sugar dragon is well and truly awake today :(  Whether it is because of the fruit I ate last evening or because I was not up until 11.30 am so my meal times have been off, I really can't say.  This is a craving and a half!!  Day 16.  Fully compliant so far.  I want the sugar. I want the feel of those creamy sweet yoghurts, or the melting chocolate or ice cream.  Aaaarrrggghhh!

I am two minutes walk away from Aldi - five minutes away from the garage...................thus only two minutes away from potential disaster!!!

I think there may be another thing happening here too - I have just finished a very stressful sewing project and prior to W30 I would have rewarded myself with a large carrier bag full of junk food.

I need help dealing with this.

I am hanging on by my fingernails here :(

Fat.

You need fat. It is ABSOLUTELY the only thing that will stop the cravings.

A spoonful of coconut oil... some olives..... a dollop of mayo....

Going forward keep the fruit (if you choose to eat it) to meal times only - throw some berries in a salad, or have a small piece at the end of your meal. Wait until at least meal two. And increase the amount of fat in each of your meals.

Trust me on this one.

Sorry to hear this, Dawn - in addition to the advice above, make sure you are addressing the stress individually. For me, this meant hitting the negative thought head-on and asking myself why I was having it, what I could do about it, etc. You might want to figure out some things you can do in place of stress eating to help alleviate those negative feelings, like going for a walk, listening to some music, or... you could pull a page out of my book and have a dance party with your dog (don't have one? borrow someone else's :P).

In addition to the great advice above, I think you should address this. It's great to reward yourself for a job well done. It's not so great to reward yourself with food. Maybe a pedicure or a massage (this in particular could be good if you've just spent a bunch of time cutting fabric and bent over a sewing machine or hand stitching), a new book or magazine, new fabric/craft supplies. If you want to continue a healthy lifestyle going forward, it's important to consider this type of thing and how you're going to deal with it in a healthy way.

Dawnski55, the only thing you will reward if you head to Aldi is your sugar dragon.  Show it who's boss and give yourself a proper treat like a lovely meal or an outing to the cinema,  You can do so this!  You're more than halfway there!!

Yesterday a chocolate craving hit me pretty hard, too. I finished my W30 in June and am staying mostly compliant because I still have weight I want to lose and because I feel so much better eating this way. I stood in front of a mirror and gave myself a talking-to. "You can have chocolate, but if you eat the whole thing, what will that accomplish? You will feel ashamed of yourself. You will feel like you've sabotaged all your good effort to this point. Why would you do that? You've come this far--you can outlast this craving and add it to your list of successes." Etc. It worked! Looking in the mirror helped! Eye contact!
