hotglueharpy
I started my Whole30 on July 19, so I'm already a week behind the ball. My community of friends has been supportive in real life, but I thought I'd post (finally) so I can avoid the siren call of the sugary cough drops in my office. I like to think this sore throat is my body's way of telling me this Whole30 thing is already making changes to my immune system! I started Whole30 to deal with my massive sugar dragon. I live in New Orleans, home of drive-thru daiquiris, mimosa Sundays, massive carb-laden brunches, and everything fried, battered, boozed, and fried again. I work in the middle of one of the most vibrant restaurant areas in the country, and it wasn't doing good things for my waistline or my checkbook, especially with my sedentary desk job. Everyone warns you about the Freshman 15, but they don't warn you about the Grad School 20 or the New Orleans 30. My family also has a history of high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes, and heart attacks. I was already in pre-hypertension and experiencing pain in my hip and knees. My skin was rebelling to college and high school levels of acne. And I'm going to my favorite nerd convention in the fall - and the last thing I need is to look tired, carb-bloated, and acne-ridden in all my pictures with my costumes! In addition to all this, I'm turning 30 in a few months - what better way to celebrate than with a Whole30?
