Reintroduction to carbs and protein shake

I recently reintroduced a protein shake after my workout and Ezekiel bread or whole wheat muffin for breakfast.  I've been eating for a week now and feel extremely tired and moody through out my day.  Could this be related? Have any of you had issues when reintroducing carbs?

Is the protein in the shake whey protein? If so, that would be reintroducing a dairy protein, and this means that gluten grains and dairy were reintroduced together. You may want to return to compliance for a bit and test them individually once you feel better.

yes, it is a whey protein and today I am returning to compliance.  I hate feeling this way. I did notice that I was a bit constipated when I reintroduced the whey protein but chalked it up to my water intake and the heat.

Sorry to hear it :( I've found that small amounts of dairy here and there don't seem to be a problem, but lots of it makes a difference. One of the moderators mentioned on another thread that dairy reactions can include a respiratory effect, which in turn impacts sleep. That could definitely result in exhaustion, so dairy may be causing the issue more than gluten/grains. Just a thought.

I do seem to have a slight reaction to gluten - almost flu-like symptoms if I indulge too much, but a small amount doesn't seem to bother me much. If anything, I feel a little warm the day after eating gluten, but I haven't been working through reintroductions long enough to know for sure that it's the gluten and not some other factor, like allergies. The only thing that's made me moody so far - ironically - is alcohol. It's ironic because I used to go to alcohol when I was moody to help myself level out. Beer gave me an instant headache and made me irritable, and wine opened the floodgates for all of the tears I guess I've needed to let out for a while.

To add to this... I Googled "whey protein allergy" and found a variety of articles addressing the idea that you could be sensitive to whey protein. Lots of the symptoms sound like what you are experiencing.

I'm unfamiliar with this site, but the article was more detailed about the indications of a possible allergy than a similar article on Livestrong.

Whey protein powder jacks up your blood sugar.  There is a way without whey and weigh.  Actual food.  All protein powders are created in a lab and manufactured.  There's very little benefit in those cans of powder.
