Dawnski55
No, it wasn't a slip. No, it wasn't a mistake. I sat with the offending mini marshmallows between finger and thumb and they hovered between the bag and my mouth whilst a host of questions ran through my mind. And I fell. And once one mouthful went in, others quickly followed. Why? Oh I could come up with a whole host of reasons but none of that really matters now does it? Now I start again. So this was a 'Whole 22' And now I start a Whole30. I need to rethink all of this. I struggle to buy enough food on my food budget. My food budget is not tiny ... £50 a week .... and I feel I should be able to manage on that. I need to be more organised with the prep and cooking. I need to plan my menu around what is happening in the week. But right now, above anything else, I need help, and support, and love, and understanding so I can climb back on as from this moment: no 'oh I have blown it so I might as well eat loads of crap before I start again' Whole30 starting over from right now. I cannot tell you how sad I am I am going to try to stay positive - to remember that I managed more than three weeks without sugar. And I am going to try to remember this headache! Please help - and please be kind Thank you
Staggolee41
Dawn, I am so sorry. I know you have worked hard and struggled and many times come out on top. I'm truly sad to see this. You're human. You'll make mistakes. The fact that you had this response to making the bad choice tells me that your heart is really in it... so get back on the dang horse (as we say here in the US). Don't let a little setback keep you from a better life and a better you. You can do this! And now... for a little tough love... to be frank, if you had tossed the marshmallows when you began, they wouldn't have been there for you to slip up. Toss the bag, and any other sweets you have, or ask a friend to hold onto them for safekeeping until you're done. The Whole30 cookbook puts it like this... getting through this plan takes a LOT of willpower, so there's no point in using up your precious discipline on holding things in your home that are noncompliant. If you can't toss it, ask a friend to hold it.

I cannot toss this stuff out - I am making cakes this week However, I could take the baking stuff over to my parents' house and perhaps do the baking and icing over there? Might be good to do that for lots of reasons - bigger kitchen to begin with! Better oven. And company so I don't fall into the trap again. I am going past there tomorrow so could drop them off then

For me, it was easier any time I thought about how hard I'd worked to avoid sugar, like prepping into the wee hours of the morning, buying special bacon, and skipping my favorite summertime treats. Now that you mention the cakes, I remember a thread about this some time ago, and lots of suggestions were made to help you. Break your routine and get someone else involved to keep you honest - both of those will happen at your parents' house. Don't be afraid to ask those you love around you for extra support right now. You need the strength.
Karen_Suep
If you can get the offending foods out of your house, that'd be ideal. And if your parents are aware and supportive of your whole30 they can help keep you on track the next time that happens. If you find you start craving sweets, eat some (not nut) fat. I have a friend who has whipped coconut cream in her fridge for when sweet tooths happen. She grabs a spoonful and eats it straight. (And coconut has a light sweetness to it. The cream is pretty my much full fat) and so I adopted that with my w30. I actually like it as much as cream in my morning coffee!

I have cooked chicken, cooked trout, and pulled pork all ready in the fridge. I wrote my log after this post to troubleshooting and realised that there were bad choices that led to this today. I will learn from that I also realise that I am still very proud of myself for the 22 days and all the changes those days made to me - and that today has not undone all of those changes - just roused the old dragon! holymolysoly
Take pride in the accomplishment of making it 22 days and then use that focus and resolve to do it again, plus a 8 more. You can do this!!
