Lesli H
It's day #1 for me, buying the book and cookbook tonight so please don't shoot me yet. The label for Tropicana Farmstand is mostly concentrates and it also has 'natural flavors' which is an FDA catch-all. So I'm just checking if by some miracle this is a compliant product. laura_juggles
Are you going to be cooking with it or putting a splash in some water to add a little flavor to what you're drinking? Those are really the only times when juices should be used on a Whole30
Moderators ShannonM816 Posted August 3, 2016 Moderators Share Posted August 3, 2016 If natural flavors is the only thing you're wondering about and everything else is fruit juice or fruit juice concentrates, it's technically ok, but you really shouldn't be drinking juice. Here's what the Can I Have list says about fruit juice: Fruit Juice: Yes Fruit juice is the only acceptable added sweetener on the Whole30. (We had to draw the line somewhere.) Use it to flavor sauces, soups, or entrees. Tip: While drinking a glass of fruit juice may be technically compliant, we really wouldn’t recommend it, even if you juice it yourself. Juicing strips many of the nutrients out of the fruit, but still leaves all of the sugar. We’d much rather you just eat the fruit.

laura_juggles
It looks like the ingredients would all be compliant, but the blends are mostly of juice concentrates so there's little to no chance any of the fiber from the fruits/veggies remain in the juice. Ounce for ounce, the Farmstand juices have only a smidge less sugar than a comparable serving (8oz) of Coke. The juice has some vitamins that they added back in after stripping them out in the juicing/clarifying/concentrating process, but that's about it.
