Starting 8/18. First Timer. Gastric Bypass 10 years ago with 200 pound weight loss. Past 5 years have slowly gained back 85 pounds.
Want to stop this trend.
Want to get healthy and energized and active again.

Really like the the concepts of the program....some difficulty in eating the volume of food.

Well day one is over!

i had Nespresso with coconut milk, eggs and sauté veggies for breakfast

lunch was a chicken leg/thigh and a small alvacado

had some pistachios as a snack

dinner was grilled chicken, fresh veggies with canned tomatoes and baby potatoes. Was suppose to be steak, potato and garlic broccoli but a neighbor gave my husband some cooked sausage and another friend made a big pot of veggies so there you go. Steak will wait until tomorrow.

Had some cashews as a bedtime snack.  Lots of water and club soda all day. 5,170 steps.

Good night.

Day two over.

Did not eat until noon which I do not like or plan to do again.

Got up early and did a crock pot meal with smashed garlic and boneless chicken thighs with onions carrots and thyme and a drizzle of olive oil

at noon had left over chicken potato and veg from day one.

Dinner was the above crock pot meal with baby potatoes and a salad with romaine, roasted peppers, scallions, shredded carrots black olives and a home made balsamic dressing.

Had a handful of pistachio nuts in evening.

Water and club soda during the day. Had iced Nespresso with coconut milk at noon. 7,100 steps.

Lookimg forward to day three and eggs and smoke salmon for breakfast.

Hi! It looks like you're off to a good start.

One thing I wanted to mention was that the three meals a day rule doesn't necessarily apply to people who have had gastric bypass or other surgeries that reduce the size of their stomach and therefore how much they can eat at one time. If you need four or more meals throughout the day, that's fine.

I would caution that nuts as a snack can be rather hard on the digestive tract. They really should be pretty limited, ideally not even eaten every day. If you are hungry between meals, you're better off having a mini meal of protein, fat, and vegetables.

Thanks for your encouragement and advice

I plan to hard boil some eggs for meal 4 in the evening rather then the nuts. I also like olives and they are easy for me to eat. Have trader joes canned oysters in olive oil as well. Missing cheese as an easy protein source.

End of day three and another successful one as well.

Did not sleep well last night (day two into three). Had some leg cramps that had me jumping out of bed.

Woke up today with a stuffy nose???? Just as predicted in Whole30. Seems weird but there it was.

Breakfast was egg with left over onion/potato/peppers and smoked salmon.  Nespresso with coconut milk.

Lunch was more snacking as we went for a boat ride. Had celery carrots cantaloupe and some farmers market sausage.

Late afternoon made a smoothie with fresh strawberry banana and coconut water. Very satisfying.

Dinner was grilled steak, roasted potatoes and grilled zucchini.  Did not feel the need to have any additional snacks.

Did feel a bit challenging today as I was around friends and family who were drinking alcohol and snacking on cheese (I love cheese!) but having the healthy smoothie satisfied my urge for a more decadent treat.  Really enjoying the flavors of the foods I am eating. 4,200 steps.

Good night!

Day 4 winding down

had a late breakfast of two sunny side up eggs, left over potatoes and grilled zucchini. Coffee with coconut milk

Took the rest of the left over zucchini and put it in the blender with one small potato a littl ghee and organic chicken broth.

Had cold grilled zucchini soup for lunch and some watermelon and grapes

dinner was Trader Joes Pork belly. I made a marinade of garlic, paprika, cayenne pepper, thyme, cumin and himalaya salt with 1/4 cup of EVOO. Marinaded for one hour and cooked in non stick pan. Made cauliflower rice with coconut and sauté broccoli and pan roasted potato.  Lots of left overs but it was really good.

Snack will be some green olives and macadamia nuts.

Need to to go food shopping tomorrow. Order coconut milk online. Want to try my hand at mayo making. Have some frozen trader joes fish in freezer will likely cook tomorrow unless I decide to go to the fish purveyor and get some clams and mussels.

No real challenges today except wanting a cocktail later in the day  No food urges (didn't see anyone eating cheese!)

Looking forward to day five breakfast  ... eggs and pork belly!

good night

For dinner I had the leftovers from a few days ago  chicken with garlic, potato and broccoli  plus a salad with romaine, spinach, roasted peppers, scallions and half an avocado  For the dressing I added some of my "failed mayo" to EVOO/balsamic vinegar mixed for a creamy dressing

at 9pm I had 15 small grapes and a closed handful of macadamia nuts

Steps 7,000  ... felling good  no real urges  no change in energy level ... only missing cheese

Started the same day. Thanks for posting your meals!  I learned I have to stay off the nuts.  Day 7 begins!  Good luck to you!!!

Thanks for your support. I am interested in what others are eating. Since I am post gastric bypass dense protein can be challenging. eggs and seafood are the easiest followed by "good" beef.

Continued success to you as well

Just had to share my day 8 breakfast

two eggs, sauté spinach in 1 ounce pork belly with fire roasted tomatoes and some smoked salmon. Sounds weird but was really REALLY delicious!

Had a smallish lunch of yesterday's chicken and avocado followed with a half handful of cashews shared with my husband and daughter

dinner was leftover sliced filet mignon (trader joes has individually package filets at a great price) and butternut squash and onions sauté in coconut oil and a little Moroccan spice. It is the first time I used coconut oil and it is awfully yummy. I plan on getting some cauliflower and making a puréed soup with coconut oil, Moroccan spice, onion and chicken broth with an ounce or two of coconut milk to thicken it

Snack was some compliant pico de gallo from the supermarket

4,700 steps

no really food cravings but wouldn't mind a nice martini

Good Night

GrayFal- you sound like an awesome cook! I loved how you just tossed together the grilled zucchini to make a soup.  Kudos!

I'll be reading more of what you write as I find your meal choices to be scrumptious sounding. :)

Thanks!

I read your journal before I started. Very encouraging. Thank you for sharing.

I had a really great whole30 day.

In the morning, I had one ounce of bacon cut into lardons ( fancy word for little pieces ) frying in the pan, I added my leftover butternut squash and onions. Next I added two sunny side up eggs and had a great breakfast.

Nespresso with coconut milk.

I then pulled apart last nights rotisserie chicken and made chicken salad with grapes and almost successful home made mayo.

And then I fried for the first time EVER plantain slices in a pinch of avocado oil.  One of my secret pleasure pre whole30 was salty plantain chips in the bag.  These were even better although I will make them "fresh" and eat them right away. I did try a few as I was cooking them but saved them for lunch.  And at lunch time they seemed a bit soggy.      http://www.justpaleofood.com/pan-fried-plantains-whole30-friendly/

lunch was chicken salad and plantains

dinner was fresh tuna http://wholeandheavenlyoven.com/2016/07/14/cilantro-lime-grilled-tuna-avocado-cucumber-salsa/ and all I can say is it was fantastic!   Another plus is the really easy and delicious avocado and cucumber salsa that I will be making again and again. I also had 3 slices of sweet potato with a little ghee.  And I am full! Have some left over tuna so will make a tuna salad for tomorrow  Will look around for an interesting recipe

Tomorrow I will be going to a friends for dinner for the first time. There will be 4 couples bringing dishes to share.  I am marinating chicken in cilantro lime EVOO which I will grill and put on a platter of  arugula  and a bit of the salsa. And I will also bring an Asian Mango Cole Slaw that I have been making forever. http://www.skinnytaste.com/asian-cabbage-mango-slaw/ I will be substituting avocado oil for sesame as the hostess is allergic.  This way I know there will be two things there I can eat

Anyway, a really good day and feeling good about tomorrow. And thanks Whole30 for giving me a place to blog my journey

Good night.

Day 10

had an early morning shopping trip so grabbed a hard boiled egg and 1/3 small sweet potato and coffee/coconut milk out the door. Husband drive so I could eat.

Lunch was the leftover avocado/cucumber salsa with two hard boiled eggs mixed in. Easy to pack meal for our fishing trip. Really really good. I will definitely make that salsa again.

Had premade the mango Asian Cole slaw this morning so grilled the marinated chicken breast. Served in bed if arugula with some lime and tomato slices.

At the dinner party I had some olives and raw veg with club soda while dinner was prepared. I had one Peice of chicken, some mango slaw, grilled flank steak over a bed of arugula, and peppers and onions. The host had made a steak and gigantic shrimp on the grill but the steak had. BBQ sauce and the colossal shrimp was marinated in butter and something else so I passed.  There was a Tres Leche Cake for a birthday guest and shots of Patron. Again I passed.  The hostess also had fresh fruit which I did have for dessert.  All and all I did well. Did not feel left out because I was eating differently.  Had a discussion with other guest about the program I was following and the info was well received.

I had 9,300 steps today. My highest since I started wearing my fir it in early July.

Good day.

Good Night.

I just made your cauliflower soup recipe.

Slight variation, I added one small (4 ounce) sweet potato and increased the beef broth to 3 cups. Total 4 cups of liquid.  It is DIVINE!

Thank for the recipe.

Day 12 was yesterday.  First day I did nit blog and first day I felt tempted to cheat.

Reason was I had a busy but good whole30 day with lunch at my house for three friends.

By the evening I was quite tired and did not cook so sorta picked on what I had.  And around 8 pm I was looking around and was tempted by the left over chicken salad and potato salad. Did not have it but was tempted...

Tody is day 13.

Had Lara Bar for breakfast around 10:30 as I was on the run. Nespresso and coconut milk,

2 pm had Trader Joe carrot coconut ginger cold soup

4:30 pm green salad with some thin slices of grilled chicken, hard boiled egg, half avocado and spoon full of home made mayo

we are going to have a late dinner of saute chicken in a little bacon, cauliflower mash, salad with tomatoes, probably sweet potato with cinnamon and ghee.

All and all a much better day.
