Bone spurs/arthrosis

Recommended Posts

I had bone spurs removed from my left shoulder and bursitis/tendonitis cleaned out three weeks ago.  Recovery is slow, but I am more concerned with the fact that I seem to have this problem in other areas of my body.  Both shoulders, both hips, and I'm seeking a spine specialist to determine if long-term back pain has progressed to bone spurs there as well.  I am 49, these issues began about 4 years ago (back pain began 13 years ago).  I have seen numerous doctors including rheumatologists, orthopedists and a functional medical doctor.  What no one can seem to tell me is WHY I seem to be prone to this happening, and how I can halt the progression.   Of course I would love to find a way to dissolve them non-surgically.  Does anyone have any experience with reversing this form of arthritis with the Paleo/Whole 30 approach?

Not that I've heard of specifically, although I do know that arthritis is often treated with an anti inflammatory diet, which is precisely what Whole30 is.

Have you ever removed night-shades from your diet as they seem to be particularly problematic for those with arthritis?

Years ago, I had been on a low oxalate diet (no nightshades) and needed to take calcium citrate to dissolve oxalates.  My husband is wondering if all that calcium years ago contributed to this problem now.  So, yes, I can try the aip diet to hit this harder than just whole 30 alone.  I've done a whole 30 almost twice through, and have loosely done Paleo off and on for a while.  But not long enough consistently to say that I've given it a solid try to see if it would help.  I hadn't known what was causing the bursitis everywhere till the surgeon explained that it was bone on bone inside.  The bursitis wasn't going to go anywhere until the spurs were removed.  That is why I'm wondering now if diet would even help...it's so much effort to be on restrictive diets.  But, I'm thinking I should go straight to committing to AIP Paleo because I'm dealing with something more than doing a "re-start" on my body.

The weird thing is that my doctor said that the joint itself was not arthritic. Bone spurs are a little different than average osteoarthritis, apparently.  But since it's technically arthritis, whole 30 will be my go-to.
