qbattle
Hi! We have a 6 month old who has had some medical issues, and we are beyond exhausted caring for her. One of my friends challenged me that I need to do something for myself. I did a Whole 30 two years ago and of course felt great. When I realized that if I started my second one today, I would finish the day before my birthday, I thought that might be the best gift I can give myself in this exhausting time. I know Whole 30 is time-consuming, but I can't eat dairy, corn, or soy, so I actually eat a lot of paleo recipes and foods to begin with. In this exhausting time, I've just resorted to a lot of peanut butter (organic and just peanuts) sandwiches (whole grain bread) - but I can do better and feel better. I would really appreciate your encouragement as we are super sleep deprived already! But my motivations are - better energy for me, great birthday gift, something different to focus on!, a victory I can be in charge of (as opposed to medical issues that are a guessing game), hopefully dropping that last 5-10 pounds so I can fit into my clothes!, doing something for me, and the kind encouragement and nice people of the Whole 30 forum. Thanks for any encouragement you can provide. It's a treasure!
bella232
It sounds like with so much out of your control, (i.e.: illness, doctors, sleep schedules) a Whole 30 approach would be something that could ground you because you do have control over what you put in your body. The big upshot it that you already know how the diet positively effects your physical and mental state, and that should be a great encouragement. What a gift you will give to your family to be at your best to deal with the many challenges life throws at us! Invest in some clean bars or compliant convenience foods to help you through, and let's get going!

qbattle
Thanks!! Spot on with the out of control feeling and gift this can be! Greek chicken and caul rice for dinner. Chopped veggies for next 5 lunches' salads. Spinach and eggs for breakfast. We're doing this.
qbattle
First time I tried Whole 30 I didn't make it. I found afternoon was my hardest time, so the second time I tried it I made my days end at 4:30/5:00, and that was more motivating for me to 'cross the finish line' each day, and I was successful. So here's to my third time - hopefully second successful one! Day One ended Friday afternoon with sauerkraut and almonds as a snack.
Mielsu
qbattle-- Could you elaborate on making your days end at 4:30/5:00? Was that your cutt-off time for eating for the day?
qbattle
Sure! So I think of a day (24 hrs) starting at dinner and ending the next afternoon. It just seemed to me if the munchies hit at 2:30 and 4:00 is when I get to add another tally to my Whole30 tally, that I could rally for another hour and a half. But to try to rally till midnight seem to be too long for me, and I found I'd give in a lot! So the next 24 hours starts for me late afternoon - and I could rally healthy an hour til dinner. Just a psychological mind game that seemed to work for me. Did that make sense?

Tried to start many times this year but never made it very far. This time...I. AM. COMMITTED. Today is Day 2 and I will continue through the #SeptemberWhole30. Headache like nobody's business right now so i'm going to bed early. I wish you all luck. Please send some back my way. Thanks...

CarolineA333
I'm on Day 7... Stay Strong! I feel really good. I'm trying to remember how I felt before when the tough moments come along. Went to a Baseball Game last night and did NOT have a beer and peanuts, or hot dog or chili cheese fries. Just water. I had a good time and didn't need the other stuff. Beautiful sunset too. qbattle
Looks beautiful! I wonder if the game and sunset took were more of a focus and heightened the enjoyment of them without the food distractions? Great job!! Glad you're feeling great!
