Guest
Here goes. Essentially I use wine and comfort foods to deal with anxiety/sadness/things that are worrying me. I am currently at the beginning of a whole30 (day 2) and I was wondering if anyone had advice re dealing with difficult things head-on rather than washing them away with alcohol or food!! It's a really important lesson that will benefit me but is tricky to start with.
LucieB
Two things I do for this. I ask myself what those foods will solve for the problem causing stress or anxiety. Pause before consuming, look ahead to how things will change by eating those foods. I usually realize that I'll only add to my stress by eating them (stomach upset) and the problem will still be there. A glass of wine won't fix a coworkers attitude, for example. Second you don't have to take things "head on" or suffer it. There's a middle approach of rolling with, embracing, accepting the situation, whatever you want to call it, that won't cause a flight or fight feeling of stress. Sometimes you gotta just shrug and say "it is what it is" as a way of taking things on. Not saying these are easy, but they help me. Hope this helps! Karen_Suep
For me, the emotionally intense stuff either drives me to being active or writing in a journal since I've been diagnosed with LADA, food only causes me more issues. I also have a few friends that are my safe place so I can vent to them if need be but my journal and physical activity (walks, cleaning house, whatever) helps most of the time
