First Whole30 starting tomorrow! (9/1)

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone! I'm Christine, and my first Whole30 starts tomorrow! I'm hoping it will help with my seasonal allergies, headaches, and general energy levels (come on Tiger Blood!). No one I know is doing this with me, so I'm relying on the support of this forum and others on Instagram (find me: enthusiasticallychristine) to keep me on track when it gets tough.

I spent all day today prepping food for this week and emergency meals beyond. Premade breakfast and meat for salads are in the fridge (along with lots of fruit + veg + guacamole!), slow cooker chili and taco burgers are in the freezer, and easy snacks are in the pantry! Bring on Day 1!

Cool! So am I. Today is my Day 0. My fridge and freezer are stocked with what I hope is at least a 12 days' supply. Tomorrow, I intend to cook some eggs to grab on days that I work (essentially, omelettes cooked in a muffin pan, then put in a baggie for quick meals, emergencies, etc.).

The worst part of yesterday was that I couldn't find anything good about anything that evening. I was complaining about everything so much that my daughter left the room to be elsewhere. When I asked why, she said it was because I was so negative. I sort of had the tired and angry at the same time. Maybe that means it will pass faster (I can hope, anyway).

On the brighter side, I have stuck with it. I spent a lot of yesterday making a huge batch of ghee (12 sticks of butter, which took 2-3 hours), as well as making omelettes (and cooking them in a muffin tin, like I said in the other post), and boiling eggs (to eat as needed).

After my salad with shrimp yesterday, I was like, "yuck, the shrimp tastes like nothing!" So, today, I fried the shrimp and some mushrooms in ghee and added that to my salad. It was so good I didn't even add a dressing. (The dressing I am using is mint lemongrass vinegar. Those are the ingredients; nothing hidden. I also have balsamic vinegar.)

Hang in there. Headaches are no fun. One thing I like about the Whole30 book is that they warn you about things like that and that makes it easier to stick with it.

Let me know how tomorrow goes.

I started my whole30 on Sept 1 too. Currently I am wanting pudding. Will look up pumpkin pudding and chia seed / coconut milk pudding.

Hi, Chris, Welcome to Whole30.

Just so you know, recreating dessert type foods is against the rules.

If you're truly hungry, as in you'd eat something bland like plain fish and broccoli, have a mini meal of protein, fat, and vegetables, or at least two of the three.

If you're not truly hungry and this is just a craving or a habit, distract yourself. Go for a walk, read a book, clean/organize something around the house, call a friend, paint your nails, work on a hobby -- something that will keep your mind and hands occupied for a little while, so the craving goes away.

Cool! Glad to have you here.

I think one way to deal with cravings is to do something you really really like, something you can get lost in. It might be going online, playing a game, reading a book, calling a good friend, etc. In other words, "I'll make the chia pudding later. First, I want to ... " then just "forget" to make the pudding.

Don't eat pudding! It's SWOYPO (Sex without your pants on!)  Paleo puddings, pancakes ,brownies smoothies are all out.  This is my 3rd Whole 30 and I can tell you from experience it's better not to fantasize about making compliant versions of desserts -yes, even if you are using compliant ingredients.  Accept that this is about eating differently and eliminating sugar based food from your diet.
