Karmakath
Tomorrow I am embarking on my first ever Whole30. And I must admit I am scared and excited, like a kid on the first day of school! Today I prepped a lot of food! Mayo, ranch dressing and ghee. Turkey burgers, sausage patties and chicken tenders. Cooked a spaghetti squash, shredded sweet potatos. Made a giant salad and washed all the other veggies. It was a full afternoon in the kitchen. While I generally eat pretty healthy, I am addicted to Hawkins Cheezies and Tim Hortons double cream extra large coffees. And I know the item I will miss the most is cream in my coffee. Sigh. I am going to use coconut milk and almond milk and see how that goes. I think I will miss dairy but am curious to see how I will feel without it! I work full time as a nurse, 12 hour days and nights. It's just to easy to eat on the run and eat terribly unhealthy foods when I get home after a long hard day or night! I have come to the realization that I have to change my eating habits and am hoping to lose some weight. I suffer from chronic pain and this is what actually motivated me to do the Whole30. So, wish me luck!
chezjulie
Good luck! Sounds like you are off to a great start with the food prep. I got to really like coconut milk in my coffee.
susanleaf
Hi, I too started Sep 5th and it is my first Whole30. Like you, I have done a lot of prepping. Made ketchup, mayo and ghee - totally an amazing experience. I am assuming you are from Canada -Timmy's coffee. I too work at the hospital and your fulltime 12 hours shifts days and nights is challenging, so the prep is essential for success. In January 2016 I stopped honey in my coffee but did add creamo. It took me a long time to transition. Now drinking my coffee black on the Whole 30 seems to easier. Good luck and keep up the prep!! Karmakath
Day 4 under my belt!! So far so good. I find it interesting that I have not really been hungry. The prep is pretty taxing especially working my wacky hours. Tomorrow I start my worst part of my rotation, 3 12 hour days in a row. So today on my day off I did........ More prep!! Based some sweet potatos, made tuna salad, made spaghetti squash, cooked some bacon, made avocado dressing, made zucchini zoodles and pan fried some shrimp! So I am good for a few days lunches and suppers! I am still getting used to the coconut milk in my coffee, other than that I am feeling on track and trying to examine my relationship with food. Good luck to everyone else who is on this journey!! Keep at it!
MrsZimm13
Something I do that may help you too is to buy frozen veggies and roast them. I cook 5 bags at a time- use multiple cookie sheets. Coconut oil, salt, pepper and garlic and roast on 400-425 for 25 - 40 min depends on how carmelized you like/want your veggies. Keep an eye on them so they don't burn, and 1/2 way through cooking, turn them over. This is very easy, very little prep and you'll have a veggie ready to be warmed up and added to any meal. And, because you have kept the spices neutral, you can add other spices to encorporate into meals... Add cumin and chili powder for a mexican flare or basil and oregano for an Italian inspiration.
