Still Hungry

I am on Day 17, and I am already amazed by the results, but I am still struggling with being hungry between meals.  I had read some comments I should try to adjust portion and adding starchy vegetables, that doesn't seem to be working.  Typical breakfast is sweet potato hash with 2 fried eggs sauteed spinach, and a small amount of some type of fruit.  For lunch I have increased the amount of leftovers I am bringing for example I had 2 chicken sausage (instead of 1 or 1 and 1/2), broccoli cauliflower carrot mix ( I increased this to about a cup and a half), half of a sweet potato.  I usually drizzle the Tessamaes dressings for fat, or I have a half an avocado.  For now I have been using Larabars or RX Bars to hold me over, but I really am trying not to rely on these as they spike my sugar to much.  I always seem to be ok for dinner, but I think that is because I go to bed ;-)

I'm not sure where you read that increasing starchy veg will help with hunger - I'm thinking it's actually the starches/sugars that are causing your 'hunger' whether real, or perceived. Fruit, sweet potato & larabars combined will pack quite the sugar punch early in the day when it's likely to impact you energy, mood, appetite & cravings. Those larabars in particular are doing you no favours - if you need to snack make it a mini meal of at least two of the three food groups, with protein & fat being your best option.

A lot of people report that eating starches/sugars(fruit) in the morning causes them to be hungrier sooner so I'd start by making the adjustments there.

Fat will provide satiety, not starch. Ditch the fruit from breakfast (have it with meal two or three), try experimenting with non starchy veg in this meal (kale, spinach, bok choi, cabbage etc - THREE cups being optimum), holding the starches back to meal three, and adding more fat to meal one (and be generous - I don't think I've ever drizzled anything...!).

I think this should bring some improvements.

Only 2 eggs in the morning isn't enough protein either. When eggs are the sole source of protein, it should be as many as you can hold in your palm without dropping them. For most people, that's 3-4 eggs at a minimum. I can't eat that many eggs (I don't like them enough) so I'll have 2 eggs and about half a palm of another protein.

Thanks so much for the feedback.  I was initially only having 2 eggs, with smoked salmon and some spinach, but when I was still hungry that is when I started adding the sweet potato.  You are correct, I am not adding enough veggies ( I probably only have a cup of spinach)  I will up that to 3 cups, and go back to two eggs and smoked salmon to add to the protein.  I brought some olives and carrots with me to work today to substitute my half a lara bar.  I have always avoided starchier foods for my last meal because my blood sugar always spikes overnight.  Although this morning my blood sugar was 101!!!!!!  I am so amazed by Whole30. Wish I would have found it years ago!!! I have no more joint pain and I have never in the 10 years I've been diabetic have had a fasting sugar of 101!

I have diabetes too! I don't check my sugar nearly as often as I should but even when I'm worried what my sugar will be with w30 it's been consistently lower and within what my endo wants it to be without medication (which is why I chose now to do a w30 since I don't have to add in meds to adjust). And I still enjoy some starchy veggies. Trader joes has tiny potatoes that I can cook one or two of and it be a fist sized portion.

Anyways all that to say that whole30 has helped me and I'm glad it's helping you. I'll see how my a1c is in a month when I go back to the endo for my follow up :)
