paigesmama815
Hi all! I am starting my 2nd Whole30 tomorrow and I'm very excited. However, we are going to the beach in 2 weeks for the weekend. Usually our beach trips consist of us eating as much pizza, fries, and frozen custard as we can handle but this time I need to stay on track. We do have a small kitchen and access to a grill while we're there. Any ideas for "fun" foods to make ahead or prep quickly once we're down there? Also, I was trying to think of something I could pack to take to the beach with us. It will be cool out but I need something portable. One catch...I absolutely despise eggs. It makes this so much harder. Especially breakfast, which we usually eat out down there. Help!
Moderators ShannonM816 Posted September 26, 2016 Moderators Share Posted September 26, 2016 Google whole30 camping or whole30 cooler meals for lots of past discussions of this. You could take burger patties or compliant hot dogs -- anyone not doing whole30 could have them with buns, you could do lettuce wraps or put the burgers on portobello mushrooms or sliced sweet potatoes. You could take pre-chopped vegetables and your favorite spices and do "hobo meals" where you wrap the veggies and meat in foil and cook them together -- these could be done in the oven or on the grill. You could cook meatballs ahead of time and have those at breakfast. Maybe you can look up restaurants in the area before you get down there and find a couple of good options so you don't have to cook every meal. You can definitely do this, it's just going to take a little more effort and planning than ordering pizza does.
paigesmama815
Thanks Shannon! I like the meatball idea and the hobo meals could be fun for my 5 year old because she can make her own. Good ideas!
Karen_Suep
I only like eggs in casseroles and not every day! I survived with leftovers for breakfast. It helps to stop thinking of breakfast and start thinking of it as meal 1. have fun on your trip!!
Robin R.
Some of my favorite "fast foods" to have on hand are Trader Joe's chile lime chicken burgers, bison burgers and turkey burgers. Compliant and delicious. Easy to prepare for any meal. I have had them several times for Meal 1 when I don't have any other protein ready. I like to put on steamed greens, stir fried veggies or even on top of a garden salad. Good Luck!!
Moderators ultrarunnergirl Posted September 27, 2016 Moderators Share Posted September 27, 2016 Some of my favorites: Compliant chicken sausage - slice and fry up ahead of time. Bora Bora Fireballs from Well Fed cookbook (or any compliant meatball). Sunshine sauce (Well Fed). Cucumbers, baby carrots, sugar snap peas with baba ghanoush or guacamole. kirkor
Buy some avocados now and (hopefully) they'll be ready in 2 weeks for guacamole.
