I'm pretty sure smoothies in themselves are not 100% approved either.  I remember something in the book about chewing and not drinking your calories.

Today, 10/10, is my first day of my Whole 30! I've not done this before but spent the past couple weeks testing the waters as I read It Starts with Food. I need to improve my relationship with food, kick my sugar habit and kill the cravings that have me grazing all day! My Doctors are also starting to have the high blood pressure conversation with me and I don't want to take medication for it so here's my solution. I am hoping my husband and parents (we're living with them right now) see how this way of eating is beneficial! So far...so good...I hit 10:00 this morning without craving a snack! Yay for having a good, protein packed breakfast...included a picture :)

Yes! Arthritis is what has brought me to the whole 30 as well. Excited to see results!
