October 10th Start

Hi all--on day 4 of this very cool program.  Trying to fix some Auto Immune and anemia issues as well as figure out the best eating for endurance triathlon. I'm a professional chef and avid foodie so I find this a lot of fun.   I've been vegan-ish for the last 5 years, so the reintroduction to meat has been interesting (I actually started with the meat/no grain/no bean thing a couple of months ago in search of an optimal diet for the AI symptoms).  My downfall is wine......5 years living in Napa Valley + Restaurants will do that to you.  Meeting friends for Happy Hour tonight--at a familiar place where I usually eat Brussel Spouts + big glass(es) of wine.  Would love to connect with anyone as we head down this path....I mean, where else can you find like-minded people who *might* have eaten chicken-cilantro-primal mayo salad with raw sauerkraut wrapped up in a nori sheet at 6:00 a.m.?  Cheers

Welcome! There are a bunch of us who started on the 10th, and there are a couple threads going with lots of good discussion :)

I am a non-professional foodie, and am finding all the cooking fun. I am lining up some W30 friendly projects for weekends - duck confit, beef bone broth, pickled mustard seeds, a big prime rib roast... May also make a bunch of sausages to freeze because I have been having trouble finding compliant ones that I like.

What is your plan to avoid the wine tonight? And can you have the Brussels Sprouts?

Good wine is a weakness of mine as well, and I have a similar challenge tomorrow night, so I am very interested in any tips for success! :D

Terrific!  Nice thing about my friends is that most of them are athletes and don't blink twice if anyone is abstaining from alcohol. I plan to have soda water and lime or maybe a post yoga Kombucha.  Brussel Sprouts in general are okay but if I had to guess, this restaurant dunks them in the deep fryer to finish/get crispy--and I'm guessing in some sort of Frymax oil (which I used to use ALOT of in my restaurant days--no more). Most likely I'll get a salad.

I'll jump over to the October 10th threads--I used to make a lot of duck confit at my old restaurant (before my vegan days). Yesterday (okay, over 2 days) I made a pot of rich chicken stock (I think that the cool kids call this "bone broth" now LOL) and some chicken liver pate laced with coconut oil--which is great on cucumber slices topped with raw sauerkraut and a little mustard. I'm taking some of the directives from an AI diet plan that calls for regular consumption organ meats, coconut products, fermented foods, seaweed and nutritional yeast. Next up, I want to try and make a batch of non-dairy started Coconut Kefir.  I'm roasting red cabbage right now and just cooked some purple cauliflower #purplefoodyum.

I do notice a direct correlation between No Wine Consumption = No Sugar Cravings.  Yesterday, I had 2 cups of raspberries and a pear for fruit/sugar--also did a couple hours of triathlon training so I needed the sugars.  Full Fat coconut milk is my current BFF

Have a great day and I'll follow you over at the other threads--if you have time, would you send me the link one or two?  Thank Hillary!

That all sounds amazing! I was actually wondering about all the mentions of sauerkraut - the fermentation piece makes sense. I have been trying to find good Kombucha that doesn't have sugar added post fermentation (just have to do more research!) :)

As for threads - I think it's OK to have multiple ones... just wanted to point out that they were there and that they had good info! There are some food topics too that I have to check out.

I hope that your day is going well.  I was back in DC last week (Alexandria to be exact).
