My name is Liz! I am a teacher in Shanghai, China. I am starting my first Whole 30 in the near future, hoping to get started possibly this coming Monday!

I am a little concerned about availability about some aspects to the W30 living in Shanghai, but am working on planning things out and researching a bit more this weekend! I am up for any suggestions and helpful hints for being outside of the States and for starting out the program for the first time!

Thanks a bunch! :)

Hi , mrs.mac,

I was browsing the forum looking for tips on eating while I China and I came across your post. I was teaching in Shanghai too until May this year and was looking at doing Whole30 while I was there but waited until I came home. I finished my first whole30 in September and I was one of the best things that I've ever done for myself.

I think if you want to buy organic, grass fed meat it would be quite difficult in a supermarket like Carrefour, one of the more Chinese ones or at a wet market. Olive oil, nuts, olives ,fruits and vegetables should be easily available but I remember from experience that olive oil was pricey. With regards to avocado oil, ghee and coconut oil you may find them in the imported goods isle in Carrefour or in City Shop.

Online shopping might be a good choice for some  hard to find products too. I used these sometimes:

As far as eating out goes, I think you'll have to ask a lot of questions especially regarding Chinese food as there could be a chance that there might be MSG, sugar, soy or wheat in the dishes. Western places might be a safer bet.

I hope I could be of some help and that your Whole30 goes well. Great that you decided to give it a go.

Thank you so much for the response! I have been searching things around town and ended up ordering a lot off of Kate and Kimi and Epermarket, they seem to be the most user friendly. I figure if its not organic or grass fed, but I am still following the rest of it I should be good attempting it here :)

And I agree, the eating out will be tricky! I don't think there will be a lot of that in the next month!

Thanks again!
