Nimra19
Hey everyone! I'm on Day 5 of my first Whole 30. The first four days, I felt really awesome and my digestion was regular and comfortable. Starting in the evening of Day 4, I've been experiencing gas, bloating, and general discomfort for the last 20 hours or so. I'm wondering if this is just my system trying to get used to the new diet, or whether I'm reacting to something specific I'm eating. Is this a common experience for people at this stage in the Whole30? Thank you!
Moderators ShannonM816 Posted October 14, 2016 Moderators Share Posted October 14, 2016 It's not unusual to experience gas and bloating early in a Whole30, so it could just be that. If you're eating something you've never eaten before, or eating a lot more of something than you've ever eaten before, it might be that that is causing issues. In general, be sure you're drinking plenty of water -- aim for 1/2 oz per pound of body weight, so a 120 lb person needs at least 60 oz of water. Cooked vegetables are less likely to cause bloating and discomfort than raw, so if you're eating a lot of raw veggies, try cooking them instead. Certain vegetables are more likely to cause these issues, like broccoli, cauliflower, or brussel sprouts, so if you're eating a lot of those, maybe try some different veggies instead. If you want more specific feedback, feel free to list a day or two of what you've been eating, with approximate portion sizes, specific vegetables you've eaten, and if you're working out, your pre- and post-workout meals.
