Smoothie Question

Hi all :) Today is my first day on the Whole30 and I'm excited. I know smothies are looked down upon during the 30 days but there are a few days I may need to incorporate them into my breakfast routine. I know how to make them and remain compliant but my question is this: I make them ahead of time and freeze them so when I really am on the go, they're easy to pop out of the freezer and defrost. If they are not completely thawed and I need to eat it with a spoon, will my brain think it's eating ice cream? That sounds very weird to ask but am thinking back to the many pancake examples in the book- even Whole30 compliant egg + banana pancakes are off limits because you brain can't tell the difference between a "compliant" and non-compliant pancake. Is this the same with eating a smoothie with a spoon and ice cream?

I would be very wary of doing this. First because any time you are having blended food, you are doing yourself a disservice. Blended/liquid calories are not processed in the same way by the body and are generally sugar heavy. Being blended already means partially digested so you are giving yourself a hit of sugar right to your blood stream. And you're probably going to be hungry in 2 hours because your body doesn't recognize that you've eaten.

The fact it's ice-cream-like is also concerning.

Why are you thinking you have no option but smoothie on these days? Time? Convenience? If you google "Whole30 fast breakfast" or "Whole30 picnic" you will get a tonne of ideas on portable and quick foods that would serve you MUCH better than a smoothie.

Thanks @ladyshanny! Your words are exactly what I was thinking. I have hectic mornings and for the past few years have transitioned between pre-making smoothies (with enough protein, veggies, etc) and overnight oats. Both my normal go-to options that do keep me full are out (Greek Yogurt in the smoothies, protein poweder and oats) so I've been looking for another option. I will definitely do some Googling. I typically eat an egg fritatta but with my workout routine, I need a "second" breakfast. Appreciate your help!

Erm.........no......no-no-no......please no with the chia pudding. They are not Whole30 approved and are really not recommended. The internet is a wild place and there is a lot of stuff that people call "Whole30 approved" that is decidedly not. No chia pudding.

I would suggest that you eat the frittata and call it a day before ever including a pudding-like concoction meant to recreate your past oats.

Pre-cook a tray of chicken thighs, hard boil some eggs, roast some sweet potatoes, mash some avocados into guac (or buy pre-made), roast some carrots, slice some cucumber. These are all easy to grab and eat on the go. If you are looking for best-case results, really turn towards real food and not recreations.

Chia seeds are marketed well but are not the nutritional powerhouse they are made out to be. They should be treated as any other nut or seed and that means limited. Note that they may also cause significant intestinal distress.
