Total Body Makeover

So I am starting my 30 day journey on Monday (Oct 31st). No better way to start than on the day where everyone gives out and eats candy, right?! So I am 24 years old and 5 years ago I was diagnosed with Systemic Lupus Erythematosis. Recently I was told I needed to start on either steroids full time or methotrexate. This diet was brought to my attention by my primary care doctor. This is my last ditch effort to have total control of my health without the need for medications! I am fully committed to this. Like the book says, "fighting cancer is hard, drinking coffee black is not hard." I keep telling myself that as I prepare to ditch all these inflammatory type foods for 30 days! I have also gained 40 pounds over the past year and I desperately want to get that under control. Although that is not my main motivator, it is certainly one of the motivators for wanting to start this life style change. I want to feel like a normal 24 year old. I do not want to feel this constant pain and fatigue any more. I am hoping this "diet" is my saving grace.

I will keep posting as my days progress, but this weekend is my time to go shopping and clean out my kitchen! I have make a list of foods to eat next week for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and even snacks! Feel free to comment on my journey with advise or even critiques if someone thinks I could do something better :) I look forward to sharing this with everyone!

Day one!!

This morning I had chia seed pudding with bananas and a few sliced almonds. The chia seeds were soaked in coconut milk over night and they are actually really really good! I am also a huge soda drinker so this morning I have a La Croix mixed with some Kombucha tea. Very satisfying. Instead of my usual coffee I also had some green mint tea for my daily dose of caffeine. For lunch I made chicken salad with apples, celery, and parsley in it. The mayo I made myself with olive oil, egg, and apple cigar vinegar. Have not tried it yet so I am hoping it is good! Tonight we are having a deer roast (we are huge hunters in my house) with carrots, red potatoes, and a dijon mustard type sauce. Hope it all turns out good!

This morning I am feeling pretty great. I do not feel bloated like I usually do after some sort of carb and my coffee in the morning. We will see how I am feeling after a week though ;)

Updates again tomorrow!

Day 2!

So far so good again. Last night I had a terrible head ache I am guessing is from no sugar. I used to drink a ton of diet soda. I tried drinking a cup of tea with caffeine thinking it was a caffeine headache, but no such luck. Gave in and took excedrin, which did help! This morning I feel about the same as I did yesterday; not feeling much of a difference. I do feel less bloated, which is nice! I cannot wait to have that energy spike I hear people talking about! This morning I had chia seed pudding again with a sliced banana and sliced almonds. I have celery and some guacamole that I made to dip for a snack later. For lunch I have the chicken salad again (just easier for me to have the same things every day during my work week). The chicken salad yesterday was very good and satisfying. For dinner I will have left over deer roast that I made last night, which was sooooo good!

Happy Tuesday!

Hi, Agordy -- have you seen the meal template? If you make your meals meet the template, you'll get much better results. Your breakfast is very heavy on fat and lacking protein and vegetables. Sometimes, if people are used to "breakfast foods," it can be helpful to think of meals as Meal 1, Meal 2, and Meal 3, to remind yourself that they're all interchangeable and anything you'd eat for Meal 3 works just as well for Meal 1.

Day 3:

Still feeling pretty good! Still no energy in the morning even after plenty of sleep, but that is OK! I feel like I am staying pretty full throughout the day too. Breakfast and lunch have been the same today as the others, but I will switch it up to something with more protein and veggies! Tonight I am making chicken tortilla soup (with no tortillas of course). So far so good with this "diet." I am excited for the weeks to come!

Well over the weekend I got Bronchitis so although I ate well I could not get cough drops without added sugar! Ugh! So I guess I am starting over! That is ok :) I know this is a journey not a destination! So here we go again! I am actually on day 2 now

Day 2:

Breakfast was a smoothie I made with 1 cup frozen berries, 1 cup spinach, 1 half cup of coconut milk, 1 half of an avocado, 1 banana, and chia seeds. I know the book does not recommend smoothies, but it has been easier to get good food in to me in the morning this way! I also had 2 hard boiled eggs for protein. I had this yesterday as well and it kept me very full until lunch time yesterday in which I had a salad with chicken, peas, carrots, and an egg. The dressing was simply balsalmic vinegar, olive oil, and some of that Mrs. Dash salt free seasoning that has garlic powder, onion powder, and a few other things in it. No added sugar thank goodness! I made sure to check it 3 times! For dinner last night I made vegetable soup since I was still not feeling the greatest, but was feeling well enough to cook. The vegetable soup was exactly how it sounds :) fresh veggies and a chicken stock with no salt or sugar. It is not lunch time yet today, but I plan to have a salad again just like yesterday. For dinner I will make beef skewers with some veggies and then maybe some fruit for dessert! Hopefully I do not get sick again!
